Do you mean the 5th gear ratios theoretical terminal speed?

or the top speed of a standard 1.8T car?
Wouldn't that be the same thing?

A std 1.8t will rev just as much as a mapped one.
Nope, the gearbox ratio has a theoretical top speed, which is well above the top speed of a standard car

Think about it, at 134 mph in a standard car, your bouncing off the rev limiter, the gearbox has more to give, otherwise how would a modded car achieve over 150

Your box is good for something like 180-190mph, your car wont do that unless you have about 400BHP and strip it down to almost a bare shell, i know that because thats exactly wehat my mates ibiza ran lol
So the cars top speed is limited to where the rev limiter is set at?

I might ask Nick to do a top speed run next time i get on the rollers, obviously with restriction doesn't apply.
theoretically with no wind you should see near enough to 200 mph in 5th on a RR, rolling resistance is an issue tho, you may not be able to hit the limiter in 5th

When the rolling road measures the speed does it measure the speed your wheels are going or is it the speed of the rollers. May sound daft but different rolling diameter etc.

Remember speedo error when you get to those sorts of speeds.Think you would need more than 400 horses or a very long private road.

So your doing 100MPH @ 3500RPM???
Nope, 203 is the theroretical maximum speed of the gearbox with the above ratios. I quickly goodled 02J ratios and used whatever came up, which could be miles oout lol and with a guessed tyre diameter.

To be accurate, find your ratios etc and whack them in that calculator I posted. It only does a fairly simple mathematical calcualtion, it can only be as accurate as the figures its given since theres no room for slipping in the transmission if your clutch is in good nick.

Ie if your crank is doing x amount of rotations and know your gear ratios and tyre circumfrance, you can work out how fast you are going

to get it to top speed youd need about a million horsepower lol

380BHP at the wheels, a weight of just over 800 KG (not including driver) and an indicated 184 on GPS, wasnt on the limiter, just ran out of puff, sounds extremely close to 200 but in reality he probably needed nearly as much power again to get there lol

That must be a bit scary! These cars are not designed to run high terminal speeds. Surely the tyres are coming close to the limits and the aerodynamics of the car would limit it so much[*-)]

Have nudged 150 (speedo) and found it to be very twitchy and light at the front end, not an experience I will be doing again!

Yes it is scary lol, correct tyres etc used, I wouldnt just do that on budgets lol

To be fair i wouldnt do it full stop, i was passenger and in a convoy with that and a big BHP scooby and a Cosworth RS500, the inevitable happened.

An o2j 5 speed is 23.9mph/1000rpm, so wit a 6700rpm rev limit gives 160mph theoretical maximum.

With a max rev limit of 8200rpm, you get 196mph

An 02m 6 speed is 24.6mph/1000rpm, so this gives 165mph, and 202mph

You'll need a lot of power to get there though. I hit my previous 7800rpm rev limit with my 02m a couple of times in top, but I wouldn't want to do it again.

Your mates Ibeza though either has an astronomical rev limit, or longer final drive, or bigger wheels, as 8200rpm would just about make 186mph with an ibezas ratios.

Just text him there to ask him the crack and the reply was "it had a 6 speed dog box in it you spanner"

so its relevance to this thread is none lmao.

alas the car is no more, he got bored of it constantly being broken and split it for spares, dispite my requests to put a proper interior back in it and sell it to me lol

my 1.8t can take it off the end of the 160mph speedo needle moves off the 160 a bit so not sure what the top speed is, I wasn't really looking at the speedo after that but I think the revv was close to the original red line on my 5 speed box at this speed. Doesn't seem that exciting anymore, I was like a little kid when I first arranged a strip to test this on but these days Im more concerned with my mpg [:(]
