Friend of mine emigrated in the 90's and promptly bought a Fiero to replace the AX GT he had in the UK. Crazy how these yanks can screw so little power out of such big CC's but it should be quite torquey I guess.

Insurance here is rape unfortunately :angry: The state requires quite a high level of injury cover so even "3rd party only" cover is of the order of £1200 a year - although they tend to do policies for 6 month periods, not for a year.

Well I've now made my first "Mod" to the car - a fresh set of centre caps to replace the two missing (and two broken) ones.

And, in other news, I've entered myself and the car into the Ohio Valley 700 Rally (by Rally North America) for this October.

The Rally organisers require all entrants to raise some money for the Ohio Epilepsy Foundation, so we will be aiming to raise $750 for the foundation between now and when the rally kicks off in October. The fundraising page is here and I will likely be whoring it out in a big way closer to the time

I've always wanted to do one of these type of events should be a laugh! There will be much to do between now and then, including raising the money as well as designing a livery (thank god I have my own vinyl cutter), lots of rally-specific mods etc etc...

It's the first part of a few to come. Basically, because this is an 80s GM car, its security is laughably awful (yes that is my professional engineering opinion) I want to add a snap off steering wheel, so I can take it in the house when the car is parked up as a theft deterrent.

This is the 6 bolt boss adaptor (suprisingly hard to find over here, they mostly prefer 5 or 3 bolt wheels) which is the first piece of the puzzle.

Well, today I made a couple of little changes to the car. One was the fitting of the super jdm mad tyte y0 dorifto potato steering wheel:

I'm still waiting on the snap-off boss to arrive, and I've just ordered a Nardi steering wheel (which is coming from some far off country), to eventually replace this thing with somehting a little more retro.

It's a nice wheel this one though, and its about 4" less diameter than the original camaro wheel, so it makes the car feel like it turns a little quicker. Just not quite the right style for this car at the end of the day.

Other than that, I made a couple of little cheeky stickers for the t-tops.

Today I set about de-tinting the front windows, cos they're a little bit illegal here in Michigan!

Came off much easier than expected actually. Was pleasantly suprised after I watched a MCM video how to I was ready for all sorts of sticky goo!

I definitely don't want to attract too much attention from the Rozzers, especially because this car is hardly inconspicuous to start with...

 

Well I've been very busy since the last update, unfortunately not with the car... setting up our US office has been crazy!

Anyway, finally I got a new headliner for the camaro (no more bare sheetmetal roof for me!) - it was a bit pricey but this car is 30 years old, at the end of the day.

So here's the interior with all the bits which needed to be removed, removed.

Although now, your attention is drawn to the dutty dutty beige plastic everywhere else! And one of the speaker covers is still missing. So that's next I guess.

The only other new feature is that a few of the rally decals are starting to creep onto the car! I actually have loads and loads of vinyl on order for a full "vintage race car livery" which I've designed, so stay tuned for that - should happen next week sometime. The fully package of rally graphics is also here, and we've landed ourselves a title sponsor too, which is great!

That weekend was around 800 miles non stop in 30ish degrees heat, and the car performed admirably

The "License plate" (god I hate myself for saying that) - I chose - personalised plates here are only $30 so it'd be rude not to!

 

Yesterday, my counterpart in the UK mr @timbomfg was kind enough to send me a care package from the UK, which, aside from some union jack and MX-5 related goodies, contained a new steering wheel I ordered some time ago:

It's identical to the one I have in my MX-5 back home, although that one is 330mm, this one is 370mm, a good size for this barge of a car. I do however need to get some countersunk bolts for it, these domed ones will eat at my soul knowing they're not sitting right.

Next up is to fit the snap off kit although I don't have much confidence in the quality of the one I have.

Also, this week I recieved the wrap I need to finish up the livery for the Ohio Valley 700. Very excited although it's going to take a while to put on. Only a couple of weeks to go though, can't wait!
