My car being a 2004 model mk5 never had anything such as a highline computer, mfsw....

I have the above fitted and all work well, only that i can't change tracks or radio stations with my search buttons. Yes the up down buttons work as i can scroll through my highline options, just that i can't do anything with the radio apart from using my volume buttons on the mfsw, they work fine, plus the mute button.

Do i have to code the radio? could it be my old canbus gateway?

hmm don't know mate. with my zenec unit if i keep pressing menu on MFSW it flicks through the options, when it brings up the Zenec menu i can only change tracks when that menu is s elected.

never tried with my stock stereo.

The radio is rejecting codes. The codes are explained in the extra pop up box, i see an option that allows pairing of the radio and highline clock... well i think thats what it is for.

I have the original old rcd300, there is another rcd300 with silver buttons and plays mp3.... i'm sure thats a rcd300 model too..... isn't it?

The proper way to change CD tracks or Radio station would be

Press the Menu Button

Once the main menu is displayed

Scroll down using the Up or Down button and s elect the Audio option by using the Ok button

Only then will you be able to change tracks

btw: this info is from a 2007 MY Car manual.

The RCD300 Should work with it

I've looked at VCDS coding for the RCD300 Radio and can't see anything there that could be causing your problem or to solve it

Do you have the Audio option in the main display, without it you won't be able to switch tracks. I can't change tracks till I s elect it

In the main display or the options? in the main display i can scroll till i see audio track 1 audio track 2 ect....

If i switch the radio on, my display then shows the radio station name.

There is no audio in the menu, im guessing its not ment to.

its in the manual 2007 Model Year Car that Audio should be there. have you had a look in the long coding for the CAN-Gateway?

And what exactly am i looking for in the can gateway?
look at the long coding, see if there is anything there for the radio / mfsw

i'm still convinced that you need the audio option in the settings menu, to change tracks / station

You have the later set of steering wheel buttons fitted (post 2005.5-2006). Eddie is right in that you can only use the track advance / seek wehen you are actually in the audio menu (where you see Track 1, Track 2 or radio station etc). When you are out of the audio menu, for instance the MFD menu, the the track advance will not control the Stereo, only the Highline display and what is shown on screen.

This is what I had in my 2005 car, and I then changed the buttons for the earlier versions, and I now get track up/ down or seek no matter what menu I am in on the MFD. The only thing about doing this is that the ealrier cars (again post 2005.5-2006) used the wiper stalk to control the MFD menu cycling, and the MFSW to control the audio, phone etc.

I think you should find someone local to you, and borrow their newer version of the RCD300 to see if that makes a difference ( I think mrtrendvampire is in East London?). It would also be a good idea to send a Vag-Com Auto Scan to Ross-Tech to see if they have any ideas. Although you have a newer version, the manual that I have does make note of the Audio option. What are your Highline options and do they all work
