Upgrading your CCM

As title says what is involved? Done a little searching and i believe it involves door lock modules, CCM and some re-wiring. I was just wondering if anyone could advise me of exactly what is needed and what re-wiring is involved. I am not worried about sourcing the parts as an Immo3 TDi is sitting on the drive with all donor parts ready to go and I'm sure I can manage a little re-wiring as I recently completed the Climatronic swap.

Any help much appreciated.

I have an Immo2 car and have just fitted Immo3 full FIS clocks. I want the picture of the car to display on them so it shows the doors opening and closing. As it did on my Immo3 TDi, i know you need to change the CCM to do this so I was hoping just to swap the one out of my TDI.

As mentioned I don't know what is exactly involved in the process so need a little guidance. I believe Ray (ard) has completed this swap...if your out there Ray any guidance would be great.

Thanks

Which model CCM have you purchased? e.g. is it 1C0 959 799? Also, what year is your vehicle?

If you wanted to enable the 'Big Car Picture' doors open feature on the FIS cluster, not only do you need to upgrade to Immo3 cluster obviously but you would also have to ensure that your door controllers use what is known as a 'dynamic-speed' CAN bus network.

Basically pre-2003 cars (whether Immo2 or Immo3) use a static-speed door controllers (1J0 XXX XXX). All the individual door controllers are not wired to the cluster in the way post-2003 cars are. So even if you install an Immo3 cluster and upgraded CCM these two items will receive the message but the cluster cannot decipher the message due to the slow speed.

This means that in post-2003 cars (with Immo 3 too), the cluster as well as the CCM (1C0 959 799 for instance) are listening to the messages that the 1C0 XXX XXX door controllers are sending in the CAN Bus network...at dynamic speed of course! With this dynamic speed a full picture in the FIS display can be shown.

The Immo3 cluster and 1C0 CCM and door modules are 'Plug & Play' whereas the Immo2 cluster, 1J0 CCM and door modules each need to be coded to speak to each other.

Have a quick read of this from the TDIclub forum: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=136080&page=4 Read especially "madelgado"'s post - they explain everything properly. [Y]

EDIT: Based on your very first post I'm pretty certain you know what items need to be changed anyway. The rest is just down to replacing the said items and minor re-wiring ensuring that the door modules communicate with the CCM and cluster. If I'm not mistaken you might need to change a few pins on the back of the cluster. Again, the link above gives some info about that. [:)]

Cheers Flamous, that link is a great help. I currently own an Immo 2 Bora and an Immo3 TDi golf, I havn't checked part numbers but I am hoping just to swap the bits over from each car. I'm sure will be fairly straightforward when I get into it after reading the thread. Will let you know how I get on.

perfectly summed up [Y]

I did swap a while back and spend alot of time researching it and understanding it what each wire does. I swapped over the 4 door electrinc window motors to the 1C0 from the 1J0, CCM to 1C0 959799B, used a AH remote to match the CCM. Wired in the CAN connections into back of cluster (immo3). That is a must because the new new CCM get all it ignition, airbag and gala signals that way instead of the 1J0 hardwire method.

I made a link harness to plug the 1C0 ccm into the existing 1J0 connectors making it a plug and play solution.

Dragging up my old thread, I have now completed the ccm swap and have the nice car picture on my fis dials. I used ray's aforementioned plug and play solution, it saves loads of time and allows you to return the car to standard wiring if needed at a later date. I also swapped the alarm siren while I was under the bonnet so I don't have the horrible sounding strangled goose sound when I arm and disarm the car.

Here is a full guide on the ccm swap if anyone is interested:
