how easy is it to tell the difference between a cheap ebay turbo and the real deal?

also what are the things to look for when buying a used turbo?

are there any things to stay away from on a refurnished turbo?

You should get it checked by a proper trusted turbo refurb place if getting a 2nd hand one - but you should check for any side to side play in the turbine shaft... this may help you

also look the the official tripple k stamp on the turbos - it should look like 3 of the letter K arranged in a triangle or maybe one big K in a triangle.

but fakes can be made to look real so buy from a repeatable place (not one located in china lol)

The cheap ebay ones are crap and will blow up sending pieces of metal into the engine, probably within the first 1000 miles.

look at it this way, the turbo turbine spins at up to 150000rpm, you want it made properly...

Some people say the kkk turbos are not good enough for tuned cars, so dont even think of the cheap ebay ones mate.

I did tell him haha, but at the end of the day, you cant always help people when they want to try build a quick car on a budget.

Ill get going for a genuine bog worner k04-001 sometime in the new year....yes it might cost 800 quid, but its a proper turbo that shouldnt go bang in 1000mile.

Chris mate, you can try RP turbo as well, contact CTS turbo, ask for Clay or Nik, they will help you in that K04-001 issue.

Cheers,
