Hi mate, thanks I've wanted a mk4 since my parents had one when I was a kid, I'm friends with the last two owners of the car, the last one had the audi alloys on the whole time he owned it as he was having a crack fixed in the merc wheels which was more of a pain than he expected, the first owner had the merc wheels with a stretch on so when I've asked him what stretch he had (if he can remember) i'll post the answer here :)

yours is a nice colour mate looks like a wine red from the pics

What size are the Eltanins before we can recommend some tyres? And your spot on with the location of the thread

Will keep an eye on this.

Haha Yeah, would be a good start, they are 18's i'll post a pic of one of them shortly, I've found an old text from my friend he had either 185/45/18 or 225/45/18 so I guess i'll have to go through the wheels/tyres thread and try find some examples to look at :)

nice are you still VAG? i'll have a look if you've posted any pics yet

I need to add a banner and a profile pic but I want some 'clean' pics first not much point at the moment, I couldn't upload a picture of the back as it was slightly embarrassing haha (fingermarks everywhere from where I was trying to figure out how to open the boot in pitch black)

just noticed the logbook says AGu109133 as the engine type, is this good / bad / ugly?, it's old and done a fair few miles but appears to be still going strong after being looked after reasonably well, needs a new mount on one side in the next few thousand miles but it's been well serviced

I'll be keeping an eye on this build you know because bolf !!

Thanks for the welcome

I read your build thread before I signed up here, yours is one of the ones that helped me decide to join this forum over any of the others, I think the front end looks quality when its in silver with all the black details, I've never been a fan of 5 door cars but there's so many people on here who have done such a nice job with theirs I'm definitely starting to see the attraction :)

UPDATE

I just got insured with Brentacre who are absolutely spiffing, at this point I can't recommend them enough especially as I bought a pre-modified car, they were really friendly and helpful, 10 minutes on the phone and I'm fully insured as of today, she will be getting a nice wash and a few photo's this weekend :) :)

I've always liked MOREdoors, persoanlly 3doors are awkward (I'm old y'know)

also grats on the cover I phoned brentacre they know what a bolf is so it's a doddle with them and you can change stuff and tell them they wont charge (Unless you increase BHP)

Cheers mate, I've had a good run out in it this weekend, all seems tip top at the moment, still needs a good wash before I get some pics, might have to settle for a quick blast with a jet wash at a garage on my lunch break as it's obviously dark and freezing when I get home at night now, can't wait to get tyres on the eltanins and stick them on but ive been advised to wait til after winter as they've just been refurbed, the audi alloys are in pretty dire condition but I'll just have to put up with it.

the audi heated seats are a winner though in a morning

Do it!!! you can see peoples faces while they try and figure out what kind of car it is,

is it a Golf?

is it a Bora?

No..

It's a Bolf.

I do love it to be fair, was always more of a fan of the hatches especially the GTI's than the saloons boras / passats etc, this seems like the best of both almost..

update;

After 3 weeks of trouble free motoring I got my first problem, it began on Sunday with the STOP - CHECK COOLANT warning.

Naturally I obliged and proceeded to check said coolant which it turned out was on the floor outside my house.

I filled the bottle and drove up the road and back to warm up and try spot where the leak was, it looks like it's a metal pipe just behind where the dipstick goes in. I've tried to upload a pic to this comment but it's not working for some reason, tried everything. Anyway, my friend is a vw performance specialist (lucky me) he's coming over tomorrow to check it's not too serious then will order parts and with a bit more luck i'll be on the road again by the weekend. Just hoping it hasn't had a knock on effect with anything else but haven't really driven anywhere and didn't have to limp home with it so think it will be okay.

On a lighter note,

I commented on a thread a couple of weeks ago that was about seats and another user called Dale had the same seats as me in his old car, the pics of his seats looked amazing and made mine look filthy, which is something I assumed I would just have to deal with, but he has very kindly offered to send me his leather colourant what he didn't use so the next instalment of this thread will probably be some before and after pics of once I've spent a few hours cleaning them.

Also been told that I can upgrade my air vents inside to ones that have red light round them (from bora I think) has anyone done this or got any pics of this mod? would be nice to know what it looks like before I go for it.

Will be going to get tyres for the merc wheels in the next few weeks (before xmas hopefully) then gotta replace the rear coilies then will be able to get some respectable stance and start on finer details, got little bits of paint to touch up, remove the rabbit badge from the back and the ugly ass arial from the roof, sort a square number plate for the front. Mainly I want to get the interior looking as clean and new as possible then to the engine bay. Can't predict the future though and it is an old car added to the fact that I don't earn a great deal. Fortunately my insurance with Brentacre isn't as high as I thought it would be which leaves a bit of room for when things inevitably go wrong and to start a little savings fund for mods.

All in all it's not the cleanest and the hardcore detailers among you would probably scoff but it's my first GTI, it's fast as hell, loud as hell and I'm already far too attached to it. :wub2:

I did give it a light spray with a jet wash a week or so ago as some muppet (my dad) thought it would be funny to write 'clean me' on the back, which was something I was trying to avoid til I'd got myself a small selection of car care products.

So, this might not be a very piccy thread for a while but will do random updates and the odd cry for help for anyone who's interested, likes to follow progress and likes to offer help / advice.

Comments and questions are welcome anyway, can't wait to get to some shows next year and meet some enthusiasts, some of the pics of members rides on here are awesome and pics of last years meets.

Signing off. :D

Don't worry about it mate, I too suffer from a hole in my pocket but I'm slowly getting used to the idea that it will be slow progress.

As for the vents I have just received a set of bora illuminated ones if that's what you're on about. Unfortunately for me they are for christmas so i cant fit them yet. :( There are plenty of pictures on here of them fitted and plenty of how to's on fitting. Simple google search brought up the most popular ones for me.

Enjoy

(Can't seem to use any smilies on my tablet :( )
