Hi Lexie,

Can't give you any help on fitting them sorry, but is there any chance you could do a mini review once you've got them fitted?

Lots of people with diesels complain about there being too much vibration, but there's not many comments from people with petrols.

Thanks [Y]

if you change both bushes on the dogbone with the powerflex ones, then the standard screw is too short and you need a longer one

otherwise i would recommend using half oem and half powerflex as i found both powerflex ones to be unbearable harsh

havent got a fiting guide with pic's but can give a step guide.

Remove from the car via the two 13mm bolts on the subframe and two 16mm on the gear box (may need some WD to free as these can seize)

with the mount removed there is a 16mm bolt that runs through the bush itself holding the metal mount plates together, remove this and remove the standard bush.

clean the faces of the dog bone, and fit the new bush in the same position as the standard. You will now need a big pair of grips and a flat screw driver.
With the gripes compress the bush tile the centre bolt come through the bottom and with the screw driver lift the captive nut to the tread and tighten (will be loads easier if you can have a second pair of hand with you at this point).

Then refit to the car, Clean the bolt treads and fit with copper grease (you do get some in the little silver pack from power flex)

Job done.

miragej: these fitted to petrol are well worth, you do get more vibration for a while, but its just while the bush beds in. have been running one on my GTi Turbo for 3 years and never would go back.
Also have one fitted to A PD150 yes for a couple of weeks the vibration is heavy but if you let it bed in again this dies down and is a pleasure to drive, and puts all its toque down [au].

Hope this helps

It's all pretty much bolt off - bolt on. Getting the nut back on the thread of the centre bolt can be a pain once the new bushes are in. If you don't have a vice to squeeze it in you can use a coil spring compressor hooked on each end of the arm - wind it in until enough thread appears to get the nut on.

for those with TDI's super-pro do a 70k composite poly bush specifically for the vag diesels to eliminate the vibrations. The powerflex ones are somewhere in between the 80k 90k superpro range in terms of stiffness.

I have the Super-pro bushes for my petrol. A fantastic mod although 1st gear vibration is bad at times. Wouldn't go back though (my other half drives the car lol and she doesn't complain). She just says the ED30 rides like a limo!

Definitely don't go full poly on a diesel, otherwise your dentist will asking whether you grind your teeth!

As tophuh said, the composite poly from Super-pro is probably a good alternative.

it does vibrate quite abit for 1st week or so but calms down as the bolt is a pain in the ass to get on but if you get some one to help, one can compact it all while someone put bolt on i struggled by myself took about half an hour to get bolt back on

changed the bushes this morning and the bolt running through the mount was a pig to get screwed back in. the only other problem we ran into was getting the mount back onto the gearbox but i removed the trolley jack that we had holding the gearbox steady, and just positioned it by hand while the old boy got all the screws back into the right places.

it's definitely made a difference to the car, it starts far easier(it used to take a second before the engine fired, now it's as soon as the key is turned) and the jerkiness when i came off the throttle has been reduced a hell of a lot. gearchanges feel a bit slicker as well which i guess is from the reduced movement of the gearbox.

there is a vibration inside the car and is noticable in the steering wheel but from what i've read this will die down as the bushes bed in.

compared to the old ones the powerflex bushes are a lot firmer and solid. one of mine looked like it was on it's last legs to be honest.

for anyone contemplating doing this i'd say go for it. it took all of about an hour to do, but take an extra pair of hands as they proved useful for me today.

20 quid well spent

The "wheel hop" will now have gone in 1st... I can't believe VW allowed a GTi to have the wheel hop issue, a disgrace.

my girlfriend is just away out in the car for the first time since this was done yesterday so her scathing verdict can be reported in an hour or so. she really doesn't sugar coat anything lol.

i took the 70 odd mile trip to belfast yesterday to see the red bull f1 car driving round belfast and the car didn't miss a beat. far more relaxing than before once i got used to it not jerking when i lifted off the accelerator. i still brace myself for it but it never happens, like when hiccups stop lol

I did this on monday.

Took well over a hour! one of the bolts in the subframe snapped in half :(.

Didnt have to compress the bushes in to get the bolt fitted really... On a first attempt we did but then realised we put it back together the wrong way round.

Gains were noticed immediately... but when the cars cold it sounds like i have a 3'' boxless exhaust system fitted (outside it sounds normal... but in the cabin its loud). No vibrations that i have noticed whilst driving though. Once the cars warmed up it sounds near enough like standard on the inside but you can definately notice that the front end feels 'tighter' in a sense.

Worth while mod... especially if your bushes are knacked, dears wanted ?60 for a new mount. GFS ?30+ vat... Powerflex.. ?15 inc postage... thanks Awesome.

You just need to wear them in.. and driving long miles wont do that.. stop start traffic etc will as mine i can say is 70% worn in as i can still feel it a little and thats after 100miles of stop start traffic to work.. it is a fantastic mod.. and will shock you! can be noticed as soon as you turn the key to fire her up! those that have done it will know what i mean!

so your saying mine will get better then ?i didnt wana spend 60odd on the r32 but mine vibrates alot on pull away etc
Yes mate.. listen resist a little. i drive alot in traffic i.e. stop start.. 1st 2nd gear mainly.. just to gauge 7 miles takes me an hour to get to work.. so thats alot of stop starting and already its started to lessen drastically.. you see theres a trick to stop it vibrating over rev a little when your pulling off but it defeats the object as you dont let the engine virate alot and crease the poly bushes.. but if you pull off as you would do normally and let it vibrate to high heavens then gradually you will notice it gets alot and i mean ALOT better.. not disapears taht would be lying but ive only done 100miles and im sure it will not be as disturbing after a couple hundred more..

So resist..!!
