Can somebody help / advise. I'm pulling my hair out. A few days ago I switched o my A/C. Just a few seconds after I heard a loud high pitch whistle. Switched engine off but noise still present. Disconnected battery, again the noise till present. After approx 1 mom, the whistle stopped but I could hear a hissing as though there was a leak. I disconnected a vac pipe but no change. The hiss was coming from the a/c compressor area. From then on, my A/C has stopped working. Thinking there was a leak, I have had it checked. Pressure tested upto 15psi, no leaks. Vaccumm tested, all ok. Regased. 600g was recovered and refilled with recommended 545g. Still not working. Checked with diagnosis machine and the code stored for 00229 - active/static - Refrigerant pressure-Lower limit not reached. The code will not clear.

So, to confirm, there are no leaks and 600g was recovered from the system and has been regased with 545g but still not working. Code stored and will not clear. Any suggestions / thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Latest update,
After a couple of days of researching etc, my plan was to hook up pressure gauges to check the high and low pressure.
High pressure was 50psi and low was fluctuating between 18 and 25psi whilst running which seemed very low and didn't make sense as to the above code. I've recovered the gas again but this time only recovered 75g!! So must be a leak. Again I tried a pressure test but no leaks! It held pressure around 40psi.

Carried out a vaccum test to -30psi. Still no leaks. So, regased the system again. Spec on bonnet is 525 +/-25g so accounting for the hoses, this time I regased to 570g and added 10mm oil and 10mm dye. At around 550g I against heard the high pitched whistle coming from around the compressor area. I ran the system for a few mins to circulate the dye. Although leaking, I checked high and low pressures again but this time both high and low was even at 100psi with engine running. This would surely indicate an expensive valve fault but that's on the bulk head and the leak is around compressor area. It's very strange I have developed to faults at once! . I've since tried looking for leaks using a UV light but still can't see anything.

With all the above in mind, could it possibly be the control valve in the compressor leaking and not regulating the pressure correctly?

Again, thanks in advance

Nice investigation and very thorough.

I can only add my Ed30 AC leak was from the high pressure side sensor, an aluminium riser just above the compressor area. Evidently this was caused by a bad batch of sensor epoxy. Hissed like a cobra.

That's all I can add :)
Thanks for the reply. Yeah the hiss sounds the same. Only when it fully gassed I get the high pitch whistle. Will be stripping it down this week for a closer look from underneath

SORTED . . . It was the high pressure sensor leaking.

Degassed, done another pressure test this time up to 5bar then the high pitch noise started. I don't think I pressurised the system enough last time. Anyway, the high pitch noise stopped but could hear hissing, to got underneath with the undertray off and fiddled around. Seem to be coming around the pressure sensor. So removed pressure, removed the sensor and retested. All ok no leaks. Replaced the sensor with a new denzo unit from euro for just ÂŁ30, regased and all is well.

Hope this helps any one else with issues

So it was the same issue as mine!

The sensor epoxy fails.

I think my OEM sensor was ÂŁ47.

Great result.

:)
Although I had dye in the system, there was no evidence of leaking from the sensor. However, the leak / hissing stopped once I removed the sensor.
Glad it's sorted. Thanks for the heads up
