Hi All,

Been a member for a bit and finally bought a Golf :D I know its a 1.6
and not everyone likes them but its all i can afford and i cant wait
until i can afford a 1.8T.

Its a 1.6se on an 02 plate with 63k on the clock and FSH.

Thoughts please and some cheap mods that aren't going to screw my
insurance over :) And before everyone says it, im looking for new
wheels, if anyone has any for sale please let me know :)

Cheers guys

What's that respray costing you Paul?

I'm tempted to do the same, probably next year though after the engine upgrades are all done.

i dont think so few stone chips here an there main reason

im getting it sprayed is scratches on the roof one end of front bumper different black ,

the wings i put on because of the rust in the usual place are a different shade,

a scuff on rear wheel arch i didnt see when i bought it about 5 years ago,

and to finally get my anni kit on ive had for 2 years its the only way i can make

sure its all 1 colour and im bored with black had black for about 8 years now

Have you had any zinc inclusions in the paint work mate? I was told today that a lot of the bumps in my boot lid are not rust but a known fault with VW painting. It takes 10 or so years to show apparently? Anyone heard of this before?

P.S. and as I recently found out - modified 16 year old Golfs like mine are not worth a bag of peanuts thesedays despite having over 12K in the car! I wanted a quote to respray a few parts as it is my daily drive and naturally looking a bit tired. The garage just said 'not worth doing, is it?'
I'd have told the garage to do one! Who are they to tell customers if it's worth it or not?!

Quite a sad read really, life moves on I guess. I have been on the forum since 2005 and made a lot of contacts over the years from going to shows, santa pod, forum meets etc etc, however of all my regulars I am literally the last one left with the Golf, everyone else has moved on changed cars got married or moved away etc and you end up loosing touch with most of them.

Depends if you're not gonna sell it then it's probably worth spending the money on a respray ?

Time flies , but even mk5 gti's are over 10 years old now!

Been a busy few weekends recently with gti Springfest and early edition but had a great time and really happy with how the cars looking! :) ran fine on both trips and done nearly 5k since the engine swap! Just enjoying the car still whilst deciding what's the plans modding wise! Some pics from Jay and Tom off of here and other people from both shows!
