You can't hear anything because it's broken.

 

You might have the flap broken and therefore it's stuck in the fully recirc mode, stopping fresh air from outside getting in, and hence that's why your windows are steaming up.

You'll need to investigate the recirc flap to see if it's at least in the closed position and then 1st step just to manually push it to be open and see if they fixes the steaming up

This happened to me back in 2005 and I just happened to do a how-to on how to fix it.

The V71 motor is just about accessible on the far left hand end of the heater box, it is not an easy job.

As suggested, I would simply grab the flap and move it to the open position.

To do this remove the pollen filter and stick your hand in the hole, the flap is right there ! (that sounds filthy) :wub:

 

Funnily enough I did this yesterday the flap was in the open position??

 

In that case it sounds very much like your heater matrix may be starting to leak. Does the coolant level drop at all?

 

No the coolant level is fine don't get a light on the dashboard.

 

However, I did notice even after applying alittle force this flap wouldn't move at all into the closed position.

I didn't want to force it too much in case I broke it or something.

 

If the flap is in open position, unless it self closes at higher motorway speeds then as CT.p has suggested you could be at the early signs of a leaking heater matrix or the supplying hoses.

It'll only be small amounts to start with .
Apparently coolant leaves a sweet smell , and or oily residue to the glass .

Yes an oily greasy like residue.

 

Not seen anything like that either yet.

 

Just an update, I went down to the Midlands this w/e a 2 hour drive on the motorway.

I didn't have the climate control on all the way their the windscreen was ok, it was a fine sunny day there and back.

However on the way back and just before I exited my junction I decided to put the climate control on. First on low and everything was ok, then I put it on high and the windscreen started to mist up slowly. I then put it back to low and also pressed the button for defrosting the windscreen and it slowly started to clear.

So any ideas, bearing in mind I still get the Airflow Flap Positioning Motor (V71) fault code??

 

When you put it on windscreen, does lots of air come from ONLY the windscreen vent?

Alot of air did come from the windscreen vent, but it also comes from the other vents albeit very little.

 

If you have lots of air from the windscreen vent and it doesn't clean, there's something else wrong.

 

The windscreen did clean when I pressed the button for defrosting the windscreen but whilst on low i.e. cold air,

my problem is when I put the climate control on to high for warm air the windows start to mist up.
