Set off this morning for work and my "check brake pad" light came on, when i looked they look fine to me.

i only got the pads replaced in march time and probably covered 15,000 miles.

i do around 500 miles a week, rush hour traffic/fast A+B roads.

Iv heard the sensors can be a bit keen.

Should i just get them checked by kwik fit?

How much do pads cost from VW?

Wouldn't go to Kwik Fit as they'll probab ly try to stitch you up in my opinion.

When you replaced the pads last time did you do the discs aswell? If not it's time now for discs as they suggest a disc will last two sets of pads.

Probably find the inner surface of the disc is a bit lipped and this has caused the pad warning light to come on a little early as the pad sensor works off the inner pads which you can't see unless you get the wheels off

I took my car to kwik-fit as they do quite an in depth free brake test/check

The lad said when my discs and pads got fitted months ago the guy damaged the sensor to loom wiring, where it clips onto the hub?

He said there is a slight bit off wire showing and with all the damp/wet weather we have had, could of triggered it off!

The sensor wire is easy to spot as it comes out the back of the pads - normally offside brakes. First simply seperate the sensor connector and replace - it might be just a bad connection as the normal state, good pads, is effectively closed - ie. connectors shorted together.

When the pads wear down the sensor goes open circuit and the ECU flags worn pads.

If you fit upgraded pads with no wear indicator the standard fix for the wear indicator is to short the pins in the car side connector together - but you have to keep a manual eye on pad wear or you can get an awful noise when the metal hits the discs.

Just done it now,

Ii cut at the loom side (only choice) joined together and tapped then fitted back into to the rubber mount, and then back into its clips.

And i also cut the brake pad sensor wire shorter and tapped up all looks nice and neat.

Oh and now NO LIGHT, lol[:D]

Here is a pic of the connectors
