Audi A1 "Polygon" wheels

Hello everyone,

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster.

This is my 1999 GTI 1.8T that I've had since it was new(!) I have yet to make any modifications to it at all, except the recent addition of the Audi polygon wheels that came off an A1. Google cant find any other instances of Golfs with these rims, so I thought I'd post this here in case anyone is interested.

Tyres are slightly too small at 225/35x18 and in combination with the stock springs, they don't fill out the arches quite as well as I'd like. The rims are 7,5x18" with offset 39.5mm, so they are quite a good fit for the MkIV. I haven't gotten around to replacing the Audi centre hub caps with proper VW ones, yet.

I much prefer the handling, steering feel and even the ride quality now compared to my old 16" wheels. It just feels really planted. The slight increase in road noise and reduction in comfort on poor roads is a small price to pay, I think. And, surprisingly, I actually perceive the road noise at speeds above ca. 75mph to be less than before. I only wish I'd gone with 18" right from the start, although 17" might also be a good compromise.

I test drove the MkV and the MkVI when they came out, as well as other cars, but I never really found any compelling reasons to get rid of my trusty old MkIV. Lately, I've been looking long and hard at the MkVII as well as various offerings from Stuttgart, Munich etc., but all the lovely MkIV pics on the forum makes me seriously consider spending some money on upgrades and fixes for my MkIV instead, starting with lower springs and fixing those sagging doors (see pic)... Thanks for the inspiration, guys!
