A few weeks ago I came across a private number plate (letter through the post)

checked it out and it was genuine

M45OOD

Although this will mean nothing to most of you

this is actually my name

doosam = masood

They wanted offers in the region of 12. When I told my friends and family they thought I meant ?1200. Most of them said I should get it and some amazingly said it was expensive[B)]. When I told them it was ?12000. Then it changed to "don't be a fool"[)]

anyway the plate went for about ?10000

I would have purchased the plate for 5k but 10k was too much for me.

Anyway how much you would be willing to pay for a plate that had your name. (without adding screws or modding the letters, or extra letters []) example MM4S0D OR M44S0D

Nothing now - in the past I've had H11ANW (my name - Ian W) which I sold for a profit without ever putting on car, and R 14NWS, but I kept getting spotted and that wasn't always helpful! Now I'm quite happy to drive about in relative obscurity..... My wife does have her name on the car (SAL) but that's so you can't see how old car is therefore she has no excuse to have a new one!

F171 SAL came up for auction recently, I bid upto ?1000, it sold for ?2500 ish. [B)] I think its now up for sale for ?5K

A few years back I enquired about F41 SAL...was ?10K! Now its up for sale on regtransfers for ?32K! [:O]

I could get FA51AL J (Faisal Javaid) for ?1K but i couldn't put it on the golf......

I paid ?500 for N8CKH and slightly reduced the width of the 8 so it looks like an i..... apparently its now worth ?3500! Happy days!

Some of the lads at work have bought plates, always worth checking the DVLA site as you'll pay from ?250 upwards from them, and as they are usually the people who own all the plates anyway they are cheaper than these 3rd party sites that charge a small fortune for somehing that they will buy from the DVLA themselves!!

anything else with 1GT is an absolute fortune !!

my name is Alex and the best one really is 4LEX but i think when it was for sale it was like ?100k which is just a but to much LOL.

I have opted formy last name on my plate tho (well part of it) because my parents also have this style, you know its one of us anyway hehe. Mine cost me just 250 from DVLA!

I had the chance to buy J1 MBO about 11 years ago for reasonable money but stupidly as I already had my plate I didn't buy it! Oh well hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I bought claire L8 CLR (Late Claire because she always is!) for about ?275 I think which I considered to be a bargain.

G4RY H should have been a grand. it went to the DVLA auction and was won for 2k. The dealer rang me teh next day and offered it to me for for 4K!

I think I've had the last laugh though - I've just had a serious offer on my plate....for more than I bought my car for!

Basic ?250 from DVLA for mine H20 PGD (PGD my initials and H20 well it is a watercooled VW).

As it is my initials it would work on any car.

Ive got V50 DUB, its not my name but i paid ?400 for it from DVLA, its now worth ?600, but im selling it to a mate[] for ?400, an gettin my name which is only gonna cost me ?250, if its still there wen i get it, hint hint, get on with it!
