Have you tried ringing round the shops? That's all I did, every day
till I found a shop with one. The short supplies aren't as bad as they
were so you might be lucky.

Nice screen the PWD8 - what made you go for that screen over a high def
one? As I understand it the picture it produces is very good for an SD
screen and the difference between it and a hi def equivalent isn't that
great.

I went for the Pwd8 as im on a budget and found some in hersham for ?1150 including composite/s-video board and wall mount and i have amp/dvd etc so no need for speakers or tuner but a 360 (For Media extender) would finish it off a treat. Have tried all shops in Guildford/Woking but they have stock in often so i shall have to keep on trying

You really need to get a component board or you will be missing out.
The composite out of the 360 is dire to say the least. However with the
component you can set it to 720p and it will look fantastic. I've seen that board for ?76.

The red/white/yellow is actually a composite connection. The red and
white are for L & R audio channels and yellow is composite video.
So you can't get component through that. What are you connecting that
puts out 720i? Do you mean 720p? In which case yes it will scale down a
720p signal to fit into the 480 lines that the screen has. The PWD8
screen is apparently good at scaling down a 720p picture whereas many
SD plasmas aren't.

It is worth getting the component board at the same time as your screen
as you can usually get a discount on it if bought at the same time. You
could get 2 component boards for the screen or you could look at
getting some form of component switching box for you to change between
sources.

Component uses 3 leads to convey video signals to the screen . These
are Y, Pr and Pb. Basically it splits the red, blue and chrominance
levels to give a good quality picture.

The 360 premium pack contains a hi-def component cable. This has 3
phono leads so if you buy a component board you will need to get one
that has phono inputs. The boards come in 2 forms - one has phono
inputs the other has bnc. Most people prefer the bnc connections as it
is a bit more secure but there's no difference in quality.

Getting the boards for ?60 is a good price. Are you sure they're for 8 series panels?

When you say amp/dvd is it an all in 1 system? Does it have a component
out on the back? If you're not sure let me know what your kit is and
I'll find out.

Just found out that the 42" PWD8 has an onboard vga port. That could
save you some money. You could buy the vga cable for the xbox and hook
it up to that. This will give you a component signal without the cost
of the board - just the cost of the cable.

I have the same port on my PHD8 and it works great, didn't realise the PWD8 had it too.

Yes they are for 8 series from same supplier and yes it is an all in one and has componant output (3 Plugs like phono only different colours) so would it be best with 2 componant boards then and i also have freeview which will run through the video in on amp.
Is the 360 all its cracked up to be then as like i said i want it more for the media extender with games as a nice bonus

You can get the vga cable
HERE

Then you would need a standard component cable from your dvd player to
the screen. It depends on how much you want to spend on a component
cable but they range from about ?20 - ?200. I spent about ?45 on mine I
think.

The xbox 360 is fantastic and it does work as a media centre extender
but not without some effort. Do you have a pc running winxp media
centre edition? If not then you will only be able to use media connect
which allows you to stream music and look at pictures but you can't
play video. To play video (and the formats it plays is limited anyway)
then you will need Winxp mce.

The vga cable is ok with the panny VGA socket but I found the component cable better via the VGA. I had to make the lead up or get it made.

The MS component which comes with the XBOX 360 has 3 male phonos for HD. I got a VGA - female phono lead. Plugged them together so the MS HD cable from the prem pack plugs direct into the plasma now.

The colours and picture Q is loads better than the VGA cable...beening a MS VGA cable or logictech VGA cable...

The colours seems alittle wasted out via VGA cable
