I called Greenlight for a quote today and before I could get anywhere with the quote I was told that their insurers would not insure anyone from my post code??? WTF?

I was insured with them the year before last and I thought they were great (although they did take ages to send me my documents).

I live in a sleepy village in the middle of nowhere! I can't see why they wouldn't insure me because of that. Nowhere else has mentioned anything!

Anyone else had this? [:(!]

Yup, they wanted more money for the A3 AND they wanted a tracker installing... after figuring out what money I would get back (which I've heard nothing about yet!) I realised it was cheaper to get a whole new policy!!

It's only a few tenners more to insure the 3.2 than it is a modified TDI! Go figure...!

We track our cliam payouts by postcode and if a postcode costs more in claims than the premiums we take in from clients then we simply increase the prices or if the postcode has lost us tons of money we will refuse to cover it at all.

If you live in a postcode where the underwriters are making a profit then your insurance will come down just like MO said his did.

Postcodes are tracked down to the district, meaning its based on the first section ie CM14 ***

Sorry if you guys feel our customer service has gone down hill but we cannot continue to place business with an underwriter at a loss otherwise our scheme will be withdrawn by the insurer and won't be able to write any members.

Another point mentioned was that we were not competetive at the time of a change of vehicle. Well we purely specialise in modified and performance vehicles, if you take out a policy on a modified or performance car and then want to change mid policy to a standard car, although we may of been the most competetive for the car the policy was started on it may not be the same case if you swap to a standard car.

We have had 3 R32's written off this year alone and one of these claims came to over ?80000.

Ian HG sorry mate we could not cover an R32 for your age mainly due to our terrible figures on claims (see above). Your insurance would of come down but don't forget you added a load of mods mid year and paid extra to cover them....I have spoken to the underwriters and managed to negotiate a reduction (PM sent with details)

Eddy H: It may of been that you were quoted on a performance car only policy with a specialist underwriter and we couldn't get the them to put your Skoda Estate onto that scheme. (see above explaination)

Our claim figures on modified Mk4's especilly 1.8t's are still very good so our underwriters are still offering concessions on these models.

If anyone would like to discuss this matter any further or has any questions regarding our criteria please do not hesitate to contact me on 01277 263030

Neil

I haven't changed to a standard car though, it's a modified 1.8T and on the same rolling road made only 1bhp less than my Golf.

I'll still consider you for a quote next year though just incase the criterea of what is classed as a modified car has changed.

Sorry mate i didn't realise the Skoda was modified, I was just trying to think of the most likely reason, I couldn't give a definate answer why we could not quote without looking at your case history and i'd need further details from you to do this.

Thanks for you input Neil. It is nice to get it from the horses mouth. Sometimes I wish you would go down to the full post code or at least one sector lower, but I guess that is down the the underwriters not you.

No problem, Yes mate it would be better if we could search down the 2nd part of the postcode afterall you quite often get really nice areas a couple of roads down from some real crime ridden parts.

The final decision does come from the underwriter but basically our specialist schemes live and die by the profit figures, the more profit we make the less restrictive the scheme becomes but if you loose money for 2 continuous years on a certain postcode, a certain car or maybe even a certain age driver then the underwirters would ask us to stop placing that kind of business or at a minimum increase the rates.

No worries, no point looking into it now as I'm insured elsewhere, but as I said I'll give you a try for a quote next year.
