To cut a long story short, ive been offered to swap my 2002 Mk4 Golf 1.8T, for a 1999 E36 BMW M3 Convertable.

Those who know my Golf know the extent it has been modified, and the time and money I have spent on it.

The M3 is totally standard, with a hard-top. It has 69k on the clock.

Oh yeah...and its Estoril Blue with White Leather.

To be honest I dont think I will, as I will loose a lot of toys and be going backwards in age, my current plans are to keep the Golf and then get an E46 M3 when the hit the ?20k mark. Also...I used to own an E36 M3 coupe before, and I do miss it....but....been there, done that!

...Im open to suggestion! [8D]

The E36 is just far to expensive to run for what it is I reckon and if I was in your situation as much as I like a change, would stick with the 1.8T. Servicing, fuel, insurance, parts, everything is going to be a lot more expensive. Don't know how much power yours has, so the BMW might beat it in power and you might attract a bit more attention from the money grabbing ladies, but that's about it.

And when the vanos on the e36 gives up the ghost your wallet will cry with pain!

Just what I was thinking; when I ran an E46 BMW; I found a good owner's forum(not in the same league as this forum though). A guy on there ran a E36 M3 and the Vanos system had to be replaced; very expensive. I agree with other posts; imo the E36 is very dated now.
