Hi all, I need your help again I'm afraid !

Some friends and me are going to Worthersee for the first time this year and I could do with some advice if any of you have been before.

Whats the best route to go? We live in Bournemouth on the south coast so there are 4 options I think.

1. Go Dover to Calais on the ferry (cheaper crossing/longer drive)

2. Eurotunnel (OK price/longer drive)

3. Harwich to Belgium ferry (medium crossing time/medium drive)

4. Harwich to Germany ferry (very long ferry crossing/shorter drive)

So what option do you guys think is best. Dover ferry/Eurotunnel is nearer to us than Harwich but means a very long drive in Europe, but its a 19 hour ferry crossing to Germany from Harwich (?97 per person return with cabin on the ferry)??

Also been to the Worthersee website www.woertherseetreffen.at But I only speak english so have no idea what it says !!

Anybody now how much entry and camping is? Do you have to buy tickets/camping in advance.

Any help would be very greatfully received[:D]

Thanks

Paul.

edit: the link now works - misspelled it[:I]

Cheers for the link.

I know its gonna cost a bit in fuel and tolls but there are 4 of us traveling in caravelle so we're gonna split it 4 ways to make it a bit cheaper!

I've been to inters every year for the last 7 years but never been to a european show so i think its worth the money.

Anybody have any opinion on which route is best?

Looks like such a picturesque place, nice weather (hopefully) and plenty of awesome VW's! What more could you ask for?

I went last year. Went a bit off route to stay in Germany for a night on the way and in Brussells for a night on the way back. In all clocked 2100 miles but did quite a bit of moving around the lake whilst there for 4 days. Great party atmosphere and absolutely packed in all four towns around the lake. Only toll roads I found were in Austria itself through the tunnels but I think this was only 10euros worth. It is well worth having 2 or more drivers per car as it gets a bit boring on German roads. It also co-incided with a German holiday last year and the trip back was a nightmare hence the stop off in Brussells.

Thouroughly recommend this to any VW fanatic. Even VW DE have a stand at the show.

What dates are people going and coming back?

We'll be camping there, do any of you know how the camping works? Can you just turn up and camp? Or do you have to prebook.

Sorry to keep asking all these questions but have no idea what to expect when we get there!

Perhaps you coluld help Richard as you've been before??

Cheers

Tunnels are very long but enjoyable if you have loud exhaust or r32. Camping and everything else is very well organised and they draft in Police help from other countries to cope with the crowds. I would suspect pre-booking on just about everything. I dont think tickets are on sale on site. You have to pre book tickets just to get in to the town on the days of the show.

I stayed at a great hotel last year right on one of the main roads to the show town and owners were great English speakers. I will dig out details and put them here later

We're going the weekend before the main show and are leaving on the Wednesday that the actual show starts, so we should miss all the crowds with any luck!

Not looking forward to the tunnels... Driving through tunnels wigs me out a bit, so I think Chris will have to do the driving through them!
