I've finally taken the plunge and entered into the world of plasma and
HD. Tomorrow I shall be getting my nice new Panasonic TH42PHD8, with a
new 5.1 setup consisting of an SVS PB10 sub, Canton CD50 fronts and
CD10 rears. I'm also getting a Denon 3806 amp and Denon 1920 dvd player
but these are on back order. To finish off I've spent about ?250 or so
on cabling. And now I'm broke!!

I ordered the speakers direct from the distributor. If you're a member
of avforums you can get a good discount on many items - I've saved
around ?500 overall I reckon. If you're interested in the Canton
speakers have a look at this thread -

It is a serious amount of cash to spend but I've been looking at stuff
for ages and though it's cost a lot now its saved some money in buying
lots of other bits.

Know exactly how greenbeast feels!

I got an ok setup, nothing special in the slightest but does for my needs. However, can never have the damn thing on! Dad goes to work at 5am, so he's in bed by 10pm most nights, if not, they moan cus they can hear it! Here's me just loving the dolby and then hating every thud. So I tend not to use it and stick with my TV's stereo output! [:(]

Nik, what's your first film going to be that you wack in to test the sound quality? I always wack in armageddon, probably not the best at all, but the bit where the rocks are coming down into the city is always good. Plenty of sound coming from different places.

As soon as I saw Canton in the list I wondered if you were also on avforums. I spend a bit of time on there too. Enjoy your setup Nik and don't forget to post up a pic on avforums. [:D]

Graham - you need to move out of home then. [:(]

I've at long last got a dedicated TV / Cinema room so am currently on the lookout for two pairs of Mission 77DS do that I can have a 7.1 setup. The plasma will have to wait until we've recovered from buying the Bungalow, got the space for it, but not enough funds at the moment.

Sounds good Nik enjoy.

Just wondered if you should have spent a bit more on the DVD player though, I'm a firm believer of spending as much as possible on the source.

I hope to complete my setup with an Arcam AVR300 receiver next year.

Possibly but I'm already stretching it buying what I have. It's had
great reviews and isn't far behind an Arcam DV79 which costs a great
deal more.

Honestly got no idea, probably Lord of the Rings, or something along those lines.

I always "show off" my surround sound with either HEAT (the actual gun shoot out is awesome on DTS), Behind Enemy Lines (basically the plane scene when they get shot down is amazing), or if I wanna really annoy the neighbours I put in Queen Live and crank it up....hee hee...

It's arrived this morning! And its huge. Not had chance to do anything
other than look at it but can't wait to test it. The sub is also huge
almost 2ft high at a guess.

I have the 3806 and 1920 dvd with my set up (big old rourks up front, huge Kef reference centre, bi pole MS rears) along with my PJ set up.

The remote control is a bit of a mare and it was pig to set up, but the sound and power is really good. And for the money that 1920 dvd is a real bargain, plays music so well too.

You will enjoy it! Are you HDMI ing it or componenting it?

To be honest, I cannot see the differnce, mind you I needed a 7 m long hdmi cable and wonder if it lost a bit over my 10m component.

No 360 yet but I will get one as soon as I can next year.

I'm wall mounting it an burying all the cables. It will be connected
via hdmi through the amp but I have got a composite and component-vga
cable going in there too to cover all possibilities.

Can't wait to get home and try it out. The sub is gonna be awesome.

It was ?2050 including an HDMI terminal board, tilting wall mount, 2
years warranty and interest free credit. They're doing a similar deal
for ?1995 but with a component board instead. You have to be an
avforums member for these offers though.
