Just been out for a drive in the rain, and had a mare with the wipers.

I could not see bugger all out of the screen - it was just getting smeared !

Anyone have any idea what I can use to clear whatever it is off the screen and wipers ? I assume its some sort of transport grease / wax !

Cheers

YEah clay bar the screen and wipers, then polish the screen with glass wax - halfords/turtlewax/autoglym, they all do the same thing at the end of the day.

Apply and buff lots of seperate coats and you should have no problems at all!

I use MER Rain Away on mine, it's excellent. Clean it first with Autoglym Fast Glass or Glass Polish then apply the Rain Away, let it dry a bit and rub it off - next time your at motorway speed you won't even need your wipers it really is that good.

I like the waxed finish on my windscreen. Firstly I use Auto Glym 'Glass Polish', then Auto Glym 'Fast Glass' to finish it off (remove smears etc). Works a treat, but my may need several goes with the polish depending on the state of your windscreen.

Dont Laugh but try clean newspaper and vinegar, it will strip all wax and contaminants of your screen and wipers, any of the above cleaners will leave a residue (usually silicone) to give it that very glossy look but that will cause smearing or a star burst effect in the dark and rain. By all means use them on the sides and insides but try and keep the screen as clean and contanimant free as possible.

If none of you believe me try it then go for a drive in the rain!!!!

Sorry claybaring will not leave a residue but the soap you use with it will, and I cant see how you could claybar the wiper blades[:)]

I clean my just with normal stuff and the Auto Glym Fast Glass or Glass Polish and then use RainX on it the water seriously glides off a treat.

If you haven't tried this stuff go down Halfords and get some it'll be the best thing you've ever bought for your windscreen and perfect for teh british "Monsoon's" we seem to be having!

Whats best, Rain Away, or Rain-X?

Do you have to do the wiper blades too?

Or are they as good as each other?

Been gonna get some Rain-X (me dad always used this) for the side mirrors anyway, for when its been stood in rain and then you drive off and realise with all the water beaded on the mirrors they're quite useless as you cant see a thing!!
