Help me please !

I've got a problem with my drivers side window.

It slides down nicely but then really struggles to go back up.
It gets halfway then looks tired and then I've got to help it my pushing it up.

Feels like the motor is slowing down and runnig out of power ???

Do you think that its the window regulator ??

I'm happy to give the repair a whirl but want to make sure that it it 100% this problem.

Mine was the same a few weeks before I heard the dreaded snap and the window disappeared into the door!

I would get it check/buy the repait kit before it goes. usually when your are in the middle of nowhere and it's raining!

It was a guy I know who is a VW mechanic. It cost me around ?120ish from what I remember. There was a part that cost about ?100 then he charged me 20 quid labour which I thought was good. Until I found about the kit for ?35ish?? If you know what your doing, at worst it's just fiddly. If you're like me and didn't know what you're doing, just get them to fit it. At least you know it's done properly. Well, maybe.....I think VW will charge something approaching ?200 for the pleasure. Cheeky swines, they have a kit to cover up their mistakes then charge for it........

Couldn't grumble though, the same guy done my cambelt/pump/tensioners for ?180. Got it done at 50k which is early, but used him while i had the chance.

Just called VW to make sure that they have the parts in !!

Spoke to a lady that said that they now offer the kit and fitting with a 50% discount now. []

?73.77 fitted including VAT.

So my Golfy is booked in for Wednesday morning and they will give me a lift to work .... Yey !

It The problem may be nothing more than the tracks/guides in the
door getting dry and a lubrication with the appropriate spray could be
all that is needed.

Well I will let VW have a look at it and see what they have to say.

If they replace it then at least I will know that is wont go in the future.

I think the whole regulator is ?70 ish and the repair kit is ?30 ish. if it's just the clips have gone you won't need the new regulator, just the repair kit. Just depends what is broken.

nothings broke yet, but last night the window was seriously slow aboout 3/4's to the top. after reading the post i thought i would need a regulator. but im really confused now....oh, if only everything in life was a reliable as a..........

so if nothings completely broken yet, what do i need?

On my invoice the repair kit is ?28.24 ( 1JM 898 462 ) and you need three clips at ?0.61 ( 3B0 868 243 ) each - ?30.07 +VAT - That's for the drivers door on a 5 dr BTW.

Labour was ?120......

If you can do it yourself before it fails then do - save the hassle of having to pull the whole lot back up.

the repair kit is ?35.45...and as the window hasnt dropped yet (touch wood) im gonna get it done myself and save about ?100...

mind you i'll need ?200 to repair the bits i break in the process!

?58.69 Including VAT

They dropped me off at work and also picked me up.

Plus I got some coffee and cookies this morning and a can of pop for the way home.

Yey !

Oh ...... and my window works great.

Don't know why they charged me that price but I just paid it and went

Just had my passenger side regulator replaced today, ?130  all in.  Driving round with cling film over the door just aint cool so before the drivers one goes I'll be getting that one done aswell.  Seems a waste to fix something that isn't broke but at least I'll have peace of mind.

I did my driver's side a couple of weeks ago 'just in case' - its not a nightmare job if your clips aren't broken, just a bit time consuming, roughly 2hrs per door. Passenger side will be done next weekend
