There seem to be lots of threads from members saying how much they love the sound made by their Carbonia/Evo cold air induction kits.

My question is What actually causes the whoooshing sound?

My guess would be blowing air straight into a filter does nothing, as the filter will dampen the noise, blow pressurised air into a 80mm wide 1/2 metre long tube, you've got a noise.

I can get mine to whistle nicely as well but I have to be going uphill to hold it otherwise I end up accelerating past the speed limit or into slow moving traffic ahead. For most dramatic effect I rev it up in second, hold it on whistle for a few seconds then floor it to overtake in slow traffic. Pssssssssssshhhhvvvoooommmm! [:p]

We monitored mine once to work it out, and found the final ptssshh was
when the filter was collapsed then expanded on letting off the gas
:) put your head down there if you get a chance and it will all
become clear :) a rolling road and good nerves helps for this :)

yes and the general whistle is the air going though the pipework...

Would these not be susceptible to sucking in water as the filter is so
low? I suppose you'd have to be extra careful with puddles and the
like.... ?

Anyone got any decent sound clips - I did see/hear one clip before and
thought it sounded a bit naff to be honest (NOI to anyone)

Yes, so keep away from any deep puddles!
Think I'll be steering clear so - I already broke a tip gearbox on
an fto and water damaged the engine on an alfa 156 (airbox in same(ish)
position as the CAI filter) after driving into a puddles I didn't see
until it was too late.....

Hi Shane

I have the carbonio CAI, and with ref, to the deep puddles, a about 2 weeks ago there was a freak flash flood near swanley in kent, I happened to be in the middle of it on the M20, I was expecting the car to stall, but I took it easy, then I could see that the road becoming blocked due to other drivers doing speeds of more then 30mph. If you have a CAI be sensible.

In order to get the sounds you need to pretty much boot it.

When the turbo cuts in about 2k and above toy can hear it psst.

Other than that, if you floor it at low revs you get that darth vader sort of sound.

no worries, it's not for everyone.

Me personally, I Love It!

Cheers
