Ok folks, need your views and advice here.

My old faithfull Sony head unit has just given up the ghost after 8 years of hard use.

I need to go get a new one as soon as possible but which one??

I have 2 sony cd changers so I am tempted by another Sony but am not a fan of any of the new range.

I would like the illumination colours to match the blue and red of the dash if possible.

I am not keen on any of these HUs with motorized displays, cant see them lasting 8 years!

And I am quite tempted by the Pioneer with the Bluetooth hands free built in. (anyone got/seen/tried one??)

So what do I go for, am willing to spend up to around the ?300 mark

I'm no longer running the standard speakers, I have decent components in both the front and rear doors and a 12" sub in the boot.

I am after a top end player to compliment this

Yeah thats one of the ones i'm considering the Pioneer DEH-P70BT The bluetooth one, looks good but is it a crappy header with a tacky gimmick or is it really a quality buy?

The other one you mentioned does sound good but its got the motorised face and that puts me off

Hey,

From some experience with HU's between me and my mate, we have found that the best for quality and sound configurations would have to be either Clarion, Alpine or Blaupunkt(Blaupunkt are quite chunky units tho)

Maybe have a look at these and let me know your thoughts

Alpine click here

Clarion click here

Blaupunkt click here

Oh and another thing during car audio purchase i have found that caraudiocentre seem to have higher prices compared to the likings of mcsdirect and caraudiodirect

Cheers

Thanks Rich,

The Alpine looks nice, is this Glidetouch technology any good?

Not keen on the others though.

Ive seen some demo's of the glider and it helps you control the ipod so easy just if you were sliding through the menu's on the ipod directly

They do actually have a special deal on including the ipod adapter if that takes ya fancy for an extra ?50 click here

Ok what about nakamichi H/U now these look very bland but they are
phenominal when it comes to SQ but i think the price range may be a bit
out of your budget but you could always look on ebay for a 2nd hand
unit.

The only way to check it out is go see it been played, just pop down to
your local I.C.E people and have a look at the unit and ask them for
there recommendations as they will know best as they play with this
stuff all day.

Sorry i forgot about these [:$] Very very good if you dont want to
attrach the wrong crowd with superb sound quality but theres only so
much difference whereby the human ear cannot tell the difference too -
so it can also turn into personal preferences

Ok, may have narrowed it down a little but am still open to opinions and comments.

Maybe:

Pioneer DEH-P70BT (bluetooth one)

Pioneer DEH-P8600MP

Alpine CDA9855R

Sony CDX-FF7750 or FF7700

Sony CDX-NC9950

Go for the Alipne, great quality.  I have had 2 pioneer OEL display HUs before and the display broke on both of them along with the cd player giving up.  The OEL display is very fragile and costs more than the price of the HU to replace.  I currently have an alpine and its easily the best for sound and quality i have had, the pioneer does sound good and the EQ is good but from my experience are very unreliable and fragile.  Alpine are well known for quality and the colour scheme matches up with the OE lighting scheme quite well unlike the pioneer.  Go for the Alpine, you wont regret it.

Thanks for all your help folks.

I have come to a decision, hopefully a good one and decided to stick with Sony, I mean after 8 fault free years with my old unit I have to give them some credit. Another big bonus is that I can keep my cd changer too.

I have ordered a Sony CDX-NC9950 Sony's flagship model [Y]

Check it out here and let me know what you think:

Thanks again for all your help and opinions
