Sorry to but in here, and point out something that may be considered to be off topic, but it may also be of interest.

I have a 1998 Passat TDI 110 Sport chipped to 132bhp and 242ft/lbs.

Gerard has a stunning 1998 GT TDI 110 Golf chipped to 149.9bhp and 237ft/lbs.

We raced side by side at the very last Crail event of 2004 and most times down the track Gerard was 1mph faster at the end of the run. However I got the faster run on the day despite the extra bulk of the Passat. Every race we had was tit for tat. I would beat him, he would be me and back and forth all day.

I suspect our programming must be set differently where Gerard is tuned for a high bhp figure and me with a high and more spread torque figure. Peak figures may not actually mean much, it is the curve across the range.

My point is that power/torque figures might not mean as much as drive-ability. You should drive both cars as standard and tuned if you can and decide after that.

If funds allow, I would go for a 150PD too. They are mental when tuned.

I had been looking at 8k but after looking around I've realised I'm going to need to up the budget. I don't really want to get horribly in debt but would go up to 10, maybe 10.5.

The more I think about it the more the 150 looks like it makes sense.

Danny, you are in the same position I was in a few months ago..... new job and 100 mile round trip a day! [:(!]

First I was looking at the 110/115 but drove the 130 and thought this is the one, as I knew it was going to get revo'd asap!

I would def spend the extra and get a 130! Hold out for a 130 with sports suspension (very rare, but I found one [:D]) it will be virtually the same as the 150! Then spec it up yourself (i.e wood trim [;)])

But saying that if you can afford/find a decent 150 go get it!

Revo is a MUST and then open a can of whoop ass on the motorway [:D]

I bought a PD100 estate with 102k on it [:O] but then i just sit on the M25 for 120 miles a day at about 60-70! As it is out of warranty can do most of the servicing myself too, figure the money is better spent on a saturday night than at the stealers!

To be honest it is actually much more punchy than I thought it would be, and getting 600miles to a tank of juice it is saving me a fortune!

Was thinking about getting a tuning box but not sure whether this might effect reliability or mpg. Anyone have any comments???

Remap it mate, tuning boxes are a waste of time, I had one before I got it remapped. No contest.

A mate of mine has a 100pd wagen and I was stunned the first time I drove it. The punch was awesome. However unlike the more powerful models it does run out of puff too quickly. A remap will sort that.

On a ?10.5k budget you'll be hard pressed to find a PD150. [:(] You should pick up a good, low mileage PD130 though. I've spent the last 3 months looking for a good PD150 for ?11-12k and have drawn a blank - a lot of the cars I've seen had either been to the moon and back mileage wise, or weren't 150's at all (even though they were advertised as such!).

Good luck in your quest!

I agree with that! I picked up my 130 with 34K on the clock (1 owner, with sp suspnsion) for ?10.4 and that was about 6months ago!

You will be just as happy with a 130pd! [^]

Have you looked in the classifieds.......? Durham might be a bit of a trek[;)]

I needed to do a p/x - but it looks like a bargain for the original poster - go go go!
