But be advised most dealers have low mileage 5 doors with metallic for around 16.5k anyway

Be aware: these examples have spent their 'run in' period being trashed as much as possible by test drivers and salesmen

Speak to your stealer foxy, when i got mine it was in the UK somehwere, arrived in 8 days.

If its supposed to be new make sure it has the new mfd etc. Easiest way to check is to make sure it has a locking glove box. If not refuse delivery on the grounds of it being an old model (or get a chunk off the price agreed)

Called them and they have a few left.

They are Euro imports and are the same as the UK spec except the rainsensor, dimming mirror, auto-lights and alarm.

They are the later spec coz they have the glovebox lock and the VW punched into the headlight bulb cover.

Is this a show stopper not to have those bits?

The alarm will cost me ?250 to get a cat1........

To be honest i'd rather not feck about and just get a UK model.

foxy i would say get a uk one. it may be a pig to sell on, just try and get an instock one off vw tomorrow. You'll regret it after about a month when the novelty factor has worn off.

btw will us mk5'ers be in for some more GB's when you get yours then? [;)]

My Mk4 was an import and its been a bit of nightmare - you only get a 1 year warranty, and you loose a grand in value ontop of what the book says.

Check out some of the brokers.

I got my 2.0 TDI 5door, with winter pack, pearl effect paint, luxury pack 2, arm rest, storage pack for just over ?17k new saving 2k (11% off), from www.uknewcars.com (they have arranged discounts with s elect dealers all over the country, I'm picking mine up from Northampton)

Have been contacted by a UK dealer via a web search engine enquiry.

They have one in stock trim for about the same as i've seen anywhere else (rock bottom deal), and the other is of a better spec with Xenons and interior stuff......the colours being what i was after too.

Discount amounts to 12-15%

Am gonna recheck specs before ordering.

Would definately go for a UK supplied car if the difference is only a few ?000. Got an import in 2001 and was 100% UK spec, very happy with it but still lost ?000's when it came to sale time compared to equivalent UK car.

I'm more & more tempted by a MkV TDi and with 3 door from ?15,599 it's a good deal - but I'd want a UK supplied car.

Foxy - have you tried autotrader - lots of new/nearly new car dealer/brokers advertising on there.

I bought a car over the phone from the VW dealer's central stock, but in the few minutes it took to sort out my deposit over the phone it had been sold elsewhere!! Shyte!

My biggest sticking point is to find a car in stock at a good price with Xenons.

I can have one with Xenons, leather, 17" Grand Prix, winter pack, cruise for 60 quid/month more than one with Xenons, armrest, 6cd changer.

WTF should i do?

Sounds like a nice spec ! I'd give the Grand Prix wheels a miss though, are they two piece wheels or are the bolts just for decoration, either way they will be an ass to clean and will probably suffer from corrosion problems. Go for the Estoril or Indianopolis, plainer designs but still nice ...

Btw can you tell how much it's costing ?

I have a silver GT tdi, but with five doors. Spot the family man[:D]

I find the silver is a little common on the roads these days, but is soooooooo practical, stays looking clean longer and hides small marks on the bodywork. Also IMO although the back bumper still looks strange with the big black lower valence, I do feel that the contrast between silver/black looks better than some of the darker colours I have seen(does that make sense?).
