Its a very good question and one I have asked myself.

I think I would lean to the GTI at the moment as it is a newer car. But when the new R comes out I am sure that will be a different story.

Fuel wise the GTI would be better

I will say it agaim, both are wonderful cars but if it were my money I would get the GTI.

I hold a lot of respect for the .:R's and their owners, they are tops.

But I think your wrong in saying that peopel posting here and wanting the GTI over the MK4 (remember MK4) are 99% mag readers?

- I would imagine a fair few have been on a test drive at least!

check the MK5 section and look for the test drive reviews, there are plenty - including mine!

I think even just out of intrugue Mk4 owners will test the GTI anyway, thats why I did.

Np about the biased, its great you love your cars and they are very special.

if this was Mk5 GTi against the Mk5 R3(whatever) then there would be no choice, .:R every time.

I think the people that are buying the Mk5 are wanting to move away from the Mk4 as they have more than likley owned an Mk4 for long enough and want something new? do you know what I mean?
