I didn't treat my 1.6 Mk4 with the love and care it deserved. It was a workhorse, that did a lot of miles, so I neglected it 'care' wise.

I don't want to make that mistake again!

What do you lot recommend I use when I clean/wash it?

Take me as a complete novice, I've always used sponge, soap, water, wax and thats it. Nothing fancy.

But with the new car I wanna go all out [:)] What wheel cleaner, which cloth to wash and which to dry, what to wax with etc?

Whats the best? [;)] (credit card quaking in its holder)

You could go for a Autoglym 'Lifeshine' protection on it or something similar, that'd make the paintwork easier to maintain in the firstplace. If it's a 'new' new car and you're buying from a dealer they may offer stuff like this already.

The dealership didn't offer me any care or maintainance packages as I wasn't exactly local [;)] Not too bothered though, as they woulda ripped me off.

I bought the P21S stuff from www.seriousperformance.co.uk

They sell other stuff you are after too. Recommend a Meguiars washmit (either wool or microfibre) and a Meguiars terry towel.

Free shipping too.

Cheers for the links and tips guys.

While Meguiars and P21S stuff is available here, I'm a bit suprised by the range of mitts, brushes, drying and buffing clothes on offer - limited range and pricey!

Don't use a cheque book so http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/ was out the question.

I ordered the majority of stuff from Autopia, although I took of the heavy bits and halved the shipping cost.

Getting the following

2 x Wool Wash Mits

1 x Son?s Ultimate Drying Towel

1 x Soft Touch Dryer (squeegee)

1 x OXO Wash Brush

2 x Concourse Buffing Towels

1 x P21S Carnauba Wax

1 x P21S Paintwork Cleansing Lotion

1 x Klasse All-In-One

Came to ?95 shipped ([:O]). Won't need to replace the clothes/mitts/brushes for a while at least.

I took of the Meguiars' bits, I'll get them from here. Price difference with the NXT stuff between here and the states is phenomenal - ?4.32 to ?12.99 here - if it wasn't so heavy I woulda ordered that as well.

Gonna order the NXT Generation Car Wash from http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/. Not sure which tyre dressing to go for though, there's two listed:

Meguiars Endurance High Gloss Tyre Protection Gel (?6.99)

Meguiars Hot Shine Tyre Gloss (?7.99)

Any of you lot use either of these? I remember reading the Gel was suppose to be quite good, may go for that.

The lengths I'll go to for this car eh [;)] [:I]

I like the look and reviews of Klasse all-in-one. Think the idea is to put this on the paint for a good durable shine and then wax on top.

Does anyone in the UK (or even europe) stock it?

I couldn't find Klasse products in the UK [:(]

Its mentioned on Autopia as well - apply Klasse All-In-One, then P21S wax over it as a final top coat.

Looking forward to getting it all now, give the car a super shine [:D]

Oh another question for you car-care guru's.

I didn't get an applicator for the polish - can I use the Concours buffing towels, or is that a no no?

Yes, you could use a very soft cloth or a Meguiars applicator pad.

Make sure they are clean and if you drop it on the ground bin it or make sure it is totally free of dirt, dust, grit. Never rub hard with your nails near the paint even through the pad, I have found this out the hard way with little swirls left [:(]

How much do Autopia charge for shipping say you were only buying one or two items?

You are right about the extremely cheap prices of Megiars stuff in the US. Saw loads of it in Walmart and the NXT wax was about 1/4 of what it costs here.

Makes me wonder if it really is that good - can't be good if it's cheap right [:p]

The problem with getting the Meguiars stuff from them is that it just weighs too much so the shipping goes up loads.

For all I listed, I payed $40 shipping.

Base shipping to the UK seems to be $20 even for a wash mitt, so if you want to place an order its best to get quite a lot in one go.

If I had added the NXT Gen car wash shipping woulda gone upto $65-70! [:O]

I've bought quite a bit of stuff from Autopia, the system shipping cost is not always what you pay, it often ends up being less.

This is the results of using NXT with P21S over the top.[^]

Spent four hours on Friday washing, drying, applying Klasse AIO and the first coat of the P21S wax - I'm already amazed by the results [^]

I've got the day off tomorrow, so I'm going to put a second coat on, then take some pics, I'll post them in the evening [:D]

Damn this forum... opened a whole new can of worms for my credit card!
