Now before I go any further I'm not claiming to have a Scooby eating car...it's only a PD140 at end of day, ok?!

BUT, tonight I was on the motorway and there was a guy in a 98 Scooby with a massive exhaust, loads of noise etc and when we would get clear straights we'd both boot it and initially he'd pull 7 or 8 cars on me even though I was in 4th with boot to the floor but after those 5 or 6 seconds I would catch him - QUICKLY and although not on his bumper he couldn't shake me either. At one point we were doing silly speeds and again, he couldn't shake me although I wouldn't have been able to pass him either.

My main stay with him range was 80 up to triple figures so anyone know what it was? Obviously nothing major if I could stay well enough with him.

We both turned off the motorway onto a 3 lane bypass and I went into left lane and he followed me and I'd say when he saw no badge on my car he was wondering what the hell it was.

Quick flash of the lights and off I went home, all good fun.

Just me in my car, he had a passenger.

Any ideas? I also sooooooooo need a remap, this really showed me what my car could be capable of. [:D]

No need to be sorry, I would've thought most Scoobies are 260 bhp ++++ !!

I tried reading whatever he had on the back and it certainly wasn't STi or anything that's why I was baffled. It certainly wasn't a done up 1.6 Impreza either though.

Probably a standard "UK" spec turbo 215-218bhp in a heavier bodyshell than the older shape.

A colleague had the older (lighter) one at work - my tuned PD130 would live with it down the twisties and my PD150 made mincemeat of another one at a recent trackday (Had similar speed down the straights but the torque dragged me out of corners so much quicker). As everyone knows, with a good driver the handling of the Impreza is in another league so on a more challenging stretch of tarmac it could have been another story.

I kinda wish I still had my TDI badge on the back now just so he could've been shocked when I was in front of him after we slowed it down!!

I suppose a 98 one would be old enough compared to today's ones alright.

Early scoobys werent that fast compaired to todays, as reflex says about 210'ish bhp, torque was quite low too If Im correct, about 190'ish.

Actually the original 'Impreza turbo 2000' is quicker than the Phase II wrx bug eyed model, on account of being lighter with the engine in the same state of tune 208 bhp. Current Phase III wrx models got a boost to 225bhp.

It wouldnt be a Sport as one of them would never pull away from you as they are too slow.

It does sound like an RA or something low geared, but maybe the guy driving ran out of cohonies.

Having had a classic 99 Impreza Turbo, standard and modded, in standard guise, there is no way a PD 140 would gain on it in any way shape or form (except mpg[:D]).

Maybe it was a she driving, and playing with you.... [B)]

If it had 2 doors, then it may have been a P1, 22B, STi 4/5 Type R, otherwise, there were loads of Classic Impreza Turbo's/WRX/STi's...

Deffo a 4 door job...

Didn't gain on it, just after the initial burst from him, I would pull on him again, he was still a good 4 cars ahead at all times, most I pushed her to was 110 mph.

Just thinking about this again, off the line, a 4x4 Sport Impreza would leave an A3 TDi behind if the driver was totally savage with the clutch.

Knowing how fast my friends Scooby Sport is, there is no way it would leave an A3 behind at speed though although a car that accelarates in front will always pull away until you have time to react and not just increase to the same speed but faster in order to pull him in. At those speeds it would take a few seconds to pull a car back in.....

It won't have been a sport. No way. Not a chance.

My mum has an 02 Sport and she drives it hard.

Even in my 125bhp Polo GTi she was left right behind.

I suspect it would have been a standard WRX.

Obviously if it got twisty and slippery, then the WRX would have been all over you (even a sport would have been, if it was raining etc).

Just my 2p
