Coming from Doncaster to B'ham in my 2ltr I averaged 46.7MPG (Driving miss Daisy!) as I was in no rush to get back to ok after a meeting. The final reading was 45.4MPG after the inevitable town driving.

What's the highest you've ever reached?

Could I have got more out of it? - the car is in desperate need of a service at the mo!

My normal MPG when giving it a good thrashing is 34MPG

I had a Peugeot Diesel before, similar performance to my GTI. Just could't stand the noise on cold mornings. I would consider another Diesel. You always had to use the plastic gloves to refil as there was always someone who managed to get the fuel all over the petrol pump handle!

I don't think this counts, but I had some ridiculous figure out of a 1.8t 150bhp once. I was driving down the A46 at 55 mph during the fuel strikes a few years ago, I was trying to conserve fuel and managed 50+ mpg!

Managed average of 36.5 mpg yesterday, 288 miles from Glasgow to Nottingham, cruise control set to 85mph most of the time

Just had to refuel, the trip when the light came on was at 387.2 miles, 1.8T remapped to around 205, the tank was 1/2 used running around town, and on a long motorway journey. On the m/way, i got 41 mpg, quite happily at 70/75 average. It is running on Optimax, and i really notice the difference when using 2 star supermarket fuel!

well happy.
