Vastly overpriced.
Yes it does look like a mini-X5, I saw a couple when I was in France.
The bumpers look cack in plastic and for ?30k why not just add another couple and get an X5....
....alternatively just forget the 4x4 thing and buy a 330d touring, it's faster, handles better, more economical, just as big inside, etc etc etc
I got sucked in to the trendy 4x4 thing and bought a Merc ML320 (yes my wife drove it most of the time) it was the biggest car purchase mistake I've made! It handled like a barge in a storm, drank fuel and was basically resented by other road users (yes you can tell by the way people cut you up and don't let you out of junctions etc).

Very ugly, very expensive. Dynamically very good apaprently as with all BMWs and probably a class leader just like the new 5, but its just so ugly - and you have to look at it every day. The X5 is a nicer car, but very common, even MORE money and a bit drug dealer. TBH if you go to that price level I think the NEW Discovery (not the old one, what a heap), which is more a baby Range Rover than a big Freelander, or an Volvo XC90 would be my choice.
In compact SUV land Ive no idea. Although I dont like the Freelander, everyone I know with one always raves about them, and the facelifted model is quite nice. But British build to worry about there...its a tough one really!

If you've got the chance of one then why not try it?
My 320 hasn't depreciated very much in ther last year so I could still sell it and make money over what I paid. If you could get a good deal then maybe you could move it on without loosing too much? (if they're as popular as the X5 was when it was launched you won't have a problem moving it)

The X3 newspaper ad has a surfboard strapped to the roof.
To non surfers this won't mean much but to me it speaks volumes.
It's a very high performance board with no boardbag or roofpads. i.e. trying to be cool but with no idea - Oh dear!

hey martyn was at the launch of the x3 in bavarian on thurs nite past and was mighty impressed they have 3 fitted with the bm bodykits and i tell u they look rather good, am supposed to be getting one for a wkend sometime soon so if/when i do sure u can take it for a spin
