I'll list the ones that were quite pokey, I tend to run a nice car and a run around aqt the same time so I've been through a few over the years.

3 x Renault 5 turbo's (first one was class til I crashed it on a greasy road, the other two were rubbish)

3 x 8v MK 2 Gti's.

2 x 16v mk2 Golf Gti's

Nissan 200sx (fast in a straight line but souless and not a country road car)

Renault Alpine GTA LHD (Great Car, no one jknew what it was but I had to carry superglue around with me to stick the plastic trim back which had a habit of popping off.

BMW E30 323i

2 x BMW E30 M3's LHD including an Evo1 (which was stolen in first week of ownership and stripped, B'stards)

Lancia Delta Integrale 16v (LHD of course)

Porsche 911SC 3.0 LHD (cost £7k to but and almost the same to keep going in the first 6 months, I px'd it in the end for the BMW E30 M3 Evo which got stripped so I didn't bother having anything too nice for a while and bought the next car)

Mercedes 190 2.6 (Less likley to get stolen)

2 x VW Beach Buggies One LWB and One SWB.

Jaguar XJ6 Series 2.

Mk1 Astra GTE

Nova GTE (possibly the worst car I've ever had and I've had crap thats not on this list)

2 x BMW E36 318is Coupes

2 x MK3 Golf VR6's

MK4 Golf GTI Turbo.

The cars I'd like to own someday soon are a sorted MK2 Golf 20v conversion and an Audi RS4 Avant, until then I'll happily stick with my MK4 as my weekend car and my ratty MK2 8v as my daily driver.

  1. Ford Fiesta 1.0 (997cc [:$]) - and a 4 speed box!
  2. Ford Fiesta 1.1
  3. Vaxhall Astra 1.3
  4. Peugeot 306 1.6
  5. VW Golf GT TDI PD 130
  6. Renault Clio 1.6rxe

Last 2 are the ones I currently own.

GT TDI 150 - I know what you mean about the Corolla GT's, my dad got one in '86 (C plate) and it was a real flying machine for the time, and still not a bad car in modern standards. he only got rid of it about 5 years ago and it was still running as well as it ever did, never one mechanical problem with it over all those years, was let down a bit by the bodywork in the end.

But yeah, I agree they were a very underrated car.

F Reg Austin Metro 1.0L. First car in 1997, got from a salvage yard as stolen recovered. Kept snapping clutch cables!!

E Reg Vauxhall Astra 1.3 Merit S. Traded in Metro for this, great little car - quite nippy too.

M Reg Ford Fiesta Si 1.6 16V. Loved this car, was in mint cond. Was written off by a learner driving solo into the back of me. Had fun with the insurance but got a decent payout.

H Reg Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9. Most fun I've had in a car. Almost gave a passenger heart failure with the lift-off-oversteer ;-)

M Reg Peugeot 306 XSi 2.0 8V. OK car, engine was a complete dog though.

T Reg VW Bora 2.3 V5. Lovely car in Mercato Blue, black leather recaro interior too. Bit thirsty though!!

04 Reg Seat Leon Cupra R. Fantastic car, plenty quick. Was not being used as I worked away so sold it for a run-around.

V Reg Peugeot 306 GTi6 2.0 16V. The run-around! Best handling car I've ever owned. Recently sold for what I paid over a year ago!

02 Reg VW Bora 1.9 PD TDi 150. Current car. Can you tell I like Bora's? Much more economical than the V5, with same power. Have got the R32 interior trim and a set of 6 spoke TT alloys on it. Just need to lower it. Then a possible remap is on order! The perfect motorway cruiser.

1. Rusty Mk1 Fiesta Finesse - I learnt to drive in this

2. Vauxhall Magnum - It was really my Dad's but I drove it most of the time

3. Mk2 Fiesta 1.4 LX

4. Mk4 Escort 1.6 LX

5. Mk3 Capri 2.0 S - It was a laugh driving this, I swapped the rear diff for one off of a 1.6 which helped the backend to slide out easier on demand [:p]

6. Mk6 Escort RS2000 - Still got, it handles sooo much better than the Golf and will hopefully be turned into some sort of track day car when I get some spare time and cash

7. Mk4 Golf Petrol Anni - My current every day car, much quicker than the Escort, but does't go round corners as well.

I passed my test in my dad's old Triumph Herald. The first car I could call my own was a Mk4 Cortina.

Posted Image

Then I moved onto an XR2 which was great fun.

Posted Image

Now a dad I needed something more practical so bought a 1.4 Ghia Escort, comfy but boring.

Posted Image

Then I saw the light and bought an 8v GTI and became a VW convert.

And the current love of my life ........................
