Quantum Platinum from dealers or avs spares. Vw spec and cheap.
There are loads. I'm using Shell Helix Ultra ECT 5w30 which is has the approvals for PD engines. It's a great oil and I pay under £30 at Euro Car Parts for 5 litres ( £27 or something last time - my local ECP seems to beat the web price when I go in - just got to ask if they can do it any cheaper when they tell you the price). ECP normal price is £34.99 for 5 litres. Opie Oils charge over £40 for this! Many use Castrol Edge 5w30 (and that's what you'll usually find in VW dealers) but you only get 4 litres for £35 so have to buy another litre at £15 for an oil change, and it is absolutely no better than the Helix Ultra in any way shape or form! Quantum is a goodun too, and also found in VW dealers..

Am considering Gulf Formula GVX (again it's for the PD engine) next time though, as that's £25.96 from Opie for 5 litres, and even better with a discount. Gulf are top oils - and prices always good.

Loads of choice really.
Fully synthetic 5W30 but it needs to meet the correct VW spec too 507 if you have a DPF or are on Long Life Servicing or 505.

The oils noted above seem to fit the bill.

The Quantum Oils are sold by many VW Group Dealers and used in their workshops and they also distribute through TPS, the wholly VW owned motor factors.

Can't find anything definitive about who makes it but have seen several posts saying Castrol which wouldn't surprise me given VW's long association with them and that I don't think VW would go for anything but a major manufacturer

I use the quantum platinum about £30 with vat from my local dealer...After using it for 70k my cam still looks like new, shame about the big hole in the back of the engine, but thats another story!
Just checked the ebay links- that is for a new seller with no feedback - I would personally buy oil from a seller with good feedback. Dont want my engine blown - due to someone selling cheap oil in expensive oil containers.

I'm not saying that seller is doing that - but just be cautious - engines are expensive.

Was just about to type the same thing...
Quantum Platinum 5w40.

I originally used the Longlife stuff when I first got the car but as I do 6k oil changes anyway I just when with the normal stuff instead.

My original cam is in top condition and now I'm using a Race cam which is going very nicely too.

I just go to TPS to buy my service parts.
thanks alot guys for your help
Never heard of it.

What is wrong with Quantum 5w40?

If you change it at set intervals you should be fine.

It's cheap and readily available.

I wouldn't buy oil and have it posted.

I have done it once before (years ago) but it's not worth the risk of it getting damaged.

You have the same engine as me and even with all my mods and power I still use the same oil. Nothing else fancy is worth it.

i went with the shell in the end. my local vw dealer wanted £36 plus the vat for what ever they supply. the local euro parts is only a stone throw away from my house. and they have a bromsgrove motor factors right next to it as well. so a bonus

Mine have stopped Platinum and only doing the Longlife stuff which is a bit more so it's probably that
TPS sell 20L of Quantum Platinum 5w40 for £52.99+VAT or 20L Longlife III for £75.99+VAT.

That's a really good deal - easily enough for 5 oil changes.

Not at mine unless you have a trade card :(

I don't have a trade card but the price does vary - they often have sales on oil and this is probably a sale price. My local one phones me to tell me if they have any oil offers on, and I'm not trade.
castrol edge wat i used..expensive stuff, but very good.
