vRS Scary Steering

Hello,

Got a bit of an issue with my 54 plate Fabia vRS.

Whenever I accelerate in any gear, albiet light or heavy acceleration, the steering wheel jumps to the right (clock wise) and the car jumps to the left, then when I let off the accelerator pedal everything centralises again.

I doesn't make for a pleasant driving experience, especially when there is ice around as the car is very twitchy.

It has just turned 87,000 miles and had power flex bushes fitted all over at around 60,000 miles.

Any ideas appreciated.

Cheers,

John

Could be an issue with the power steering.

BUT its more likely that something in the suspension is damaged. Have you hit a kerb or similar during the ice?

Check the wear of your tyres, are they worn normally? - If abnormal wear is present it would support that it could be the suspension set-up.

I would get a pro to look at it asap as it sounds dangerous.
try declutching and seeing that upsets the steering.

If so it sounds like the lower wishbones bushes have perished.

HTH
Tyres are all worn evenly and the pressures are all balanced and sat at 30 psi.

I'll be using it tomorrow so I shall try declutching then..I know these things do munch through wishbone bushes and it does get well used.
cant see lower bushes causing such a feeling and driven a few where they are on metal to metal contact [*-)]

IF it is then your better off getting the brackets that contain the bushes as it is less grief to change than pressing the bushes out

BUST iirc is about 9 quid but the full bracket is about £87

As i said about 9 quid from a dealer [;)]as it is the same on a POLO OR you can fit the FULL bracket for "about" £80 so no need to piiss about pressing bushes in that are made of plastic and brake them as they DO tend to take a fair bit of pressing in and if you dont have a press it is the easy option or not?
my mechanic is cheap so i got them pressed in :D

So is my press LOL

but looking at it from a dealer point of view

1 hours labour at say £60 the another hour assembly your into 120-150 notes so for 150 notes you can have the full thing replaced without the grief [:D]

i know what i would rather do lol

same as i just upgraded to cast wishbones rather than use the crappy pressed steal ones [Y]
:O thats dealer prices my indy is £20 an hour :)

Ahhh see i dont have that problem of paying someone else to do things
i try do most things my self...

but anything technical i just let him do it, the car was in for a re-conned box to be fitted anyways
Cheers guys, my mate is a mechanic so he does all my work for me. I used the Ibiza Cupra console bushes last time with the metal casing like the ones shown in the link above so perhaps after about 30K of hard driving they've just had enough.

I'll double check the tie rods as well once it's up on the ramps.
Right for all those that were wondering, I just phoned my mate and he said that a bolt in the wishbone had actually snapped and the wishbone was just about hanging off which could explain a lot!

Should get the car back tomorrow so I imagine it will feel totally different to drive. Perhaps time to get a track car and abuse Fabia less [:p]
You must've abused the car a fair bit then, to have the bolt snapped off like that! [:p]
Probably all the extra weight of the coal stove swinging around the front end [:D]
glad you got it sorted.

I was on the right lines with the wishbones. [:D]
