Hello all,
I've been enjoying my copy of VCDS with my 20 quid kkl lead for quite a while.
Now since I own a car with an immo3 cluster I would like to activate Miles till empty on the cluster.
As far as I could read online, this was the easiest done thru VagTacho.
Managed to get the software but i'm running into an issue.
No matter what I do, which driver I install, VagTacho just keeps saying K+Can interface not found!
I've read online that loads of people had gotten Vag Tacho working on the blue KKL Rosstech clone cables. What am I doing wrong???

I'm running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, I have a blue KKL VAG-COM fot 409.1 cable.
I downloaded the latest version of Vag tacho from the official site.
Tried the included drivers, FTDI drivers, all the old and new ones.
Tried running in xp compatibility mode. Nothing works.

You can do it with VAGEEPROM and a hex editor. I have an immo3 full FIS cluster and did the following:

Lit Needles/gauges/displays:

  • Address 1ED - Original value: 30
  • Choice of new value:
  1. Displays lit: 33
  2. Gauges lit: 35
  3. Displays+gauges: 37
  4. Needles only: 39
  5. Displays+needles: 3B
  6. Needles+gauges: 3D
  7. Everything lit: 3F

Miles to empty (MTE)

  • Address 416
  • Original disabled value: C1
  • Enabled value: E1

Welcome message

  • Address 417
  • Original disabled value: 02
  • Enabled value: 6B

I have an immo3 cluster with half display.
I'd like a needle sweep, miles till empty(actually kilometers) and lit needles upon unlocking the car. Is that possible?
Also, where can i download vag eeprom?

Needle sweep will be possible, that site I linked to has all the info needed for immo 2 as well. Lit needles upon unlocking is something I'm not sure about, but lit while ignition on is easy.

PM'd you a link for EEPROM programmer, a hex editor and DashDumpEdit.

Hi all,
Cheers ttg4l for the software, however I cant get the EEPROM programmer to work. It just keeps spewing "no ecu found" and I've tried literally everything and it won't work. vcds works totally fine with this cable I have but vag eeprom no chance.. No ecu found on reading dash prom and Rx timeout on ecu read.

Check the brand of the cluster... there is one that doesn't allow messing with at all I think it's the Motometer brand that will not connect through the OBD2 cable... with those you have to open it up and connect to the eeprom on the board on a bench to re-write the eeprom.

The VDO versions can be done through the obd2 port with the software and cable you got.

If the cluster is VDO you might want to have a good look at the obd2 port, sometimes the connections are dirty and an electrical cleaner might help. Probably to much resistance on the connector, that vagcom manages to overcome by extending the latency on the connections.

well in that case I'm out of options... so you probably have a cable that could do with some modifications... replace the cheap wires inside with some thicker ones or use the same thickness and double them up (requires some soldering)

Something i was going to do to mine but never got around to

It's really odd, my cable was as cheap as can be, around £4.50, and it works perfect with EEPROM programmer.

This looks comprehensive, but you may have already been through it: How to Solve VAG EEPROM Programmer “No ECU Found” & “EEprom area blocked” ErrorAuto Repair Technician Home
I've had a look at this site too. Nothing helped.
Have to add, I have a cable with CH340 chip.
I was looking into buying a cable with FTDI chip. Maybe those work better with VAGEEPROM.
