Got my eye on a 52 plate with all the toys, except sat nav, and I'm wondering if there is anything I should look for when haggling with the dealer. It's got warranty up until Jan, and it will have 12 more months from there on, but I'm wondering if there is anything I should know before buying, things like recalls, and generic problems that you guys (or gals) know about on the 4mo's.

Your help is mucho appeciated

there was a re-cal to do with brake pipes on certain models and age but not sure if it was on the V6

if you go into a VW dealer they will be able to check the VW database to see if there are any out standing re-calls

Check the fans as per andymac, make sure the Haldex oil has been changed on schedule, make sure all 4 tyres are in good nick (strictly speaking they should all be changed simultaneously to put less strain on the Haldex, but I haven't seen any particular evidence either way). Make sure there are no strange whining noises coming from the Haldex unit.

Mine has been mostly reliable for 5 years (both windows failed which was annoying and cold), and a new MAF has recently made it feel like new (well, just remapped) again. If it is on stock suspension, you might want to get that changed asap, unless you enjoy feeling slightly seasick [;)]

Good luck with it.

Just to be aware fella, For a REASONABLY quick sale, expect to let it go for at LEAST a grand and a half less. There are plenty about and doesnt help that I saw One of the big brand car mags telling everyone you could pick up a low mileage X plater with FSH for 8K. Mine went within two weeks because I put up in my eyes, cheap for ?8795. Anyone who knows my car, knows the excellent condition it was in on 62K, y-plate and with most optional extras, plus a lot of expensive OEM extras i had added myself (see signature link for pics)

Even at that low price, I only had a few serious callers. Problem is the limited market the V6 appeals to, especially in the present climate of massive fuel prices and group 17 insurance.

Dude that's way to cheap!!  ITs either done a million miles, or you need a REALLY quick sell.  It looks like a really nice motor fella, and a RARE colour.  Would have said ?8,500 was a better price, as there are loads of nasty tired examples up for the price you are asking.  just my 2p worth!!!

The guy that had it before me had it as company vehicle and so it clocked up motorway miles (82000) in the first 3 years, i got it after that and i've done about 10000 in 18 months. So its done 92000 miles and its in mint condition, i've had a new clutch in it, full service, new alloys and tyres, window brackets done by VW etc, all the good stuff. Theres a couple of stone chip marks on the bonnet, but apart from that its pucka.

You're right about the colour, digital camera images don't do it justice, on a sunny day when its just been polished it looks the dogs.

I'm loathed to sell it, i've just got it looking beautiful and in tip top condition, but i'm trying to do the right thing by my finances, my new mortgage has to take priority.

I'm not gonna bust a b0llock trying to unload it, but i have priced it realistically and competativley. I don't want to spend the money on the advertising just to have it sat there.

I've put it on Autotrader today for a 2 week stint, but if i don't sell it i'll take it as a sign that we're not meant to part!!

The car definitely is still too cheap!!! Understand your predicament fella, but I felt that I had sold at a loss with mine (I sold for ?8,500) I had almost exactly the same circs too. DO NOT take ANY offers at that price!!! The way I viw it fella, is if you were to buy a motor for ?8K could you get anything anywhere NEAR this standard... I very much doubt it. A steal, literally. In fact I reckon you would get that, if not more if you just took it to a trader!!! stuff it, wheres my cashe...i'll buy it and sell it on at a profit!!! lol. Seriously a ncie motor fella, and a BARGAIN for anyone who buys it.

W36 EJO has already got his Vulture eyes on it by the looks of things.... Graham... preying on the weak... you should be ashamed!!! [:p][;)][:D] lol

No worries dude. I think that you have priced it at slightly under the price you should SELL at. (For a quick sell) By that I mean I think you should have advertised it for around ?8,500, or more if you weren't in a mega rush. I think most will agree mine was a pretty tidy examply, with reletively low miles (2001 - Y on 62K miles. Later multi coilpack engine, and quite a lot spent on her)

And I had a LOT of interest at the price I sold for. Spent a couple of days saying sorry to people who had asked me to let them know if my deal feel through on saturday!!! (And that was only with the 2 week internet only ad in the autotrader)

You have a nice motor mate, and there is no reason at all why you shouldnt get the full asking price.[:D]

I was thinking about this and had a look at your listing. If you had been a bit closer, it would have been pretty much a sale this weekend!! It's an extremely nice car. Don't think its underpriced, priced well for a priavet seller with those miles. A trader would give you about 5800 for it as they are not interested in what you have done to it etc etc. Looked it up on the glasses guide. However, the leather option should add some money. You need to get the right buyer, and this is the place to get one!

Kind of good your so far away! Stops me from waving cash in your face!![:)]

Keep going...I have a sub and amp...don't have a bluetooth kit though! [:p] Getting worth it!! [:D]

If you were closer, yes, but the main reason for me not waving cash in front of your face is I will then have a 1.8T to offload! Can't be paying fo 2 cars at the moment with insurance being in the higher end for both!
