i know theres only a few V5 owners on here but im looking for a little assistance with my impending timing chain overhaul, im planning on taking on this rather large job myself. im trying to gather up a list of the parts needed and came across this pdf, is there anyone on this forum thats knows if these are the right parts for the V5 also? the diagram is for the V6 but look absolutely identical

looking at a picture robbed from Inzors build thread, they must be the same right?

VW parts desk will be able to cofirm if they're the same parts. They will also be surprisingly helpful in telling you what you need (my local VW are always happy to show me the ETKA diagrams on screen and i point to what i want)

You may even find they're not that expensive to buy.

I would imagine though, that yes, they are the same parts, as the later V5 and V6 engines share a large number of parts.

What makes you think the timing chain needs replacing? should be a lifetime part, given good servicing and a bit of mechanical luck. It's not a service item, it's a replacement part, which is probably why it's ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ

If it's not making a noise, and the measuring blocks aren't out of spec, i wouldn't worry about it. You can pick up a whole replacement AQN engine for ÂŁ400 anyway. Could just swap the ancillaries from your engine to that if the worst ever happened (chain failure).
