Mines a 2001 V5 170 and has never been recalled.

Even when giving them a list of known faults, they just say VW's central computers haven't flagged anything.

If only we had someone one here with access to the VW technical bulletins then we would all know the truth!

Sounds similar to the problems that Ade had with his V5 170, though he's sold it now and brought a Seat LCR.

Any ideas what the dealer has replaced to try and fix O'neill's problems, or possible symptoms that he has been suffering ?

my emissions light always comes on when i turn the ignition on but goes out as soon as the engine is started.

its never come on while i'm driving.

liquorice ran a vag com check at a club meet when i had my anti hijack etc added and no faults were logged.

don't know mate.

try cleaning the MAF with some alcohol before you do anything else. give it a clean by taking it out and spraying it with alcohol, refitting it while the battery is disconnected and then reconnecting the battery.

if the light doesn't come back on then it was a dirty maf - and it may pay to get an exchange anyway!

if not then its VAGCOM time.

no, the mot doesn't test engine management electrics etc if thats what you mean. as long as the emmisions fall within the required range for your car/engine then you'll be fine.

be careful with your MAF. it is very sensitive so don't drop it or shake it about! [:)]

Your lamda probes will be on the exhaust before and after the CAT, though you will really need VAGCOM to diagnose is these are faulty or not.

MAF's can just fail... they dont have to be dripping with oil or durt.. they're just a weak VAG part.. sadly :(
