There was alot of talk about this oon here a while few weeks ago. I think another option would be a K04. Which would give you 260 with just a turbo and FPR and remap, somebody correct me if i am wrong please.

I am going to look at doing this next summer.

For the K04 option you will also need a new manifold and bigger injectors, which will get you to around the 270Bhp mark.

Dont forget that when doing a turbo upgrade like this, you will have to leave yourself some cash to upgrade the brakes also [Y]

This is where i got that from

http://www.goapr.co.uk/k04kits.html

APR K04 Kit

No dates were ever given and many said it would never happen, but APR is proud to release our K04 upgrade kit for the transversely mounted VW's. Our kit includes the K04 turbo, the compressor inlet O-ring, four exhaust studs, one manifold to turbo gasket, and one turbo to downturn gasket. This kit is a straightfoward turbo swap that makes a big difference in the power output of the car.

This kit makes solid gains in both horsepower and torque. With no other mods than an APR Turbo-Back Exhaust, the kit made 242hp/268lb-ft on 95 octane gas, and 245hp/275lb-ft on 98 octane gas. Although the exhaust is not required, it is highly recommended.

Price is ?1595 +VAT

I've just dug this one up because I think we can do better than this [:p]

270bhp off a KO4 sounds pretty good, and I guess it would be quite a cheap option? although isnt the KO4 very similar to my KO3s?

what others are available? and what price and gain would you expect from them?

I read one here, a cheaper option would be to stick a T3/4 on there.? Im new to this, please let the replies/opinion flood in [:D]

My mate just bought the T3/T4 for his A4, but reakons it woulda went on my Golf a lot easier. It came with manifold and everything aswell. It was less than ?500 from US.

That turbo is HUGE. My mate (rally engineer) reakons 500-600 BHP is possible out of it, but it will be pretty laggy coz it'll take ages to spool up such a monsterous turbo. Plus, on standard internal, your not gonna want much more than 300-350 BHP. So a custom remap would be advised ;)

an example what im booked in for early next year i have a AGU now with 2.5" turbo back -

-turbo TD05 16G its the same power more bigger than a IHI easy for 340bhp spools up faster than IHI and if it seizes cheaper/easier to fix

-injectors

-oil lines

-jabba manifold

-3" downpipe +materials

-S3 air flow meter

-samco boost pipes

-samco intake pipe (TIP)

-custom code remap (custom)

-forge intercooler

-4 bar FPR

-S3 fuel pump

-labour to fit all above

?3200

not a bad price as i get a warrenty and 310bhp .. if i upgrade internals in future he can up the boost getting me another 30-ish bhp this is a very very good price and cant believe how much it is also the company has done a few before and iv seen them and keeping my eye on them to see if they get any probs.one lad being a mate-ish from round by me.

I like the idea of buying a kit for ?500/?1500 and fitting myself. To me that half the fun is buildign it myself.

T3/T4 aren't they 2 diffrent turbos or is it a T3.5 i.e. T3 hosuing with T4 internals??? i thought the T3 was relitivly small in turbo terms meaning spin up shouldn't be a problem.

I like the idea of it though!!!!

I thought it was Esscort Cosworth.

T3 off the early small turbo, very tunable up to 350BHP

T4 off the late "Big Turbo", easier to get past the 350BHP but laggy.

What's the condition of your current K03s?!

May be interested once you're done if your planning on selling it and it hasn't already been taken!!

Cheers

Theres nowt wrong with my KO3s, its running sweet as a nut, best it ever has, i was just interested in going faster. the T3/4 option sounds good, just as long as its not really laggy, i wouldn't want to go over 300 anyway as the standard internals are getting to there limit.

basically i wanted a buget big turbo that makes the car a lot quicker [:p]

anyone had any experience of the T3/4 turbo on a golf? or got one??

all this 300bhp talk is getting me excited, lol

think he is more likely to be taking about a t34 - which is quite beastly when setup properly !

the T34 was fitted to sierra AND escort cosworths...and is a popular mod for a RST - either fiesta or escort.....

its also the choice of unit for the 2.0 zetec turbo conversions

a rs500 is fitted with a straight T4 turbo - which is good for 500 BHP easy ! there were a few variations, some with 360 degree thrust bearings - others with slightly turbine housings.

My mate will have his T3/T4 fitted (well its already fitted) but ready for use middle of january.

I'll try and get some pics of the turbo up, but I can tell you now. Its a MONSTER. I'll let you know what he gets from it in his A4. Remember though, its pretty much the same engine ;) so whatever he gets, you should get on your AGU aswell.

As far as he's been advised, as said earlier, its the engines internals that are the limiting factor with this turbo. But he can upgrade them as and when he wants, and get bigger boost. He was thinking of asking the tuning company to do 1 full boost run for his print-out, then reduce the boost to a more reasonable, everyday value (he's thinking around 300 BHP for his everyday).

I'll let you guys know how it goes though ;)

By the way, I might be going down this route aswell, see how successful he is with it. If I do though, I'll have a BRAND NEW, NEVER FITTED k03s up for grabs. Be looking for about ?350 for it though (?1100 from VW).

Sounds like a cheap turbo upgrade with lots of power, what are the downsides going to be? Lag??

Im guessing you need injectors, uprated intercooler? custom remap? obviously the turbo and manifold, downpipe and exhaust? cai prob eh?

let us know how it goes, maybe some progress pics??

I should manage some pics of the A4 at the moment. The guy is here just now, so I'll ask him to take some.

He went down the intercooler route, so all is well with that. Spent a fortune on silicone hoses though ;) Anyway. I'll get pics up asap ;) And once its all ready to go, I'll let you know of the dyno results, and how it feels to drive.

He is also going for BIG cossie injectors (green or white, aint decided yet ;)). But I got the Audi TT225 injectors (Good for 300+ BHP for my k03s, and I might have to let them go aswell if I go down this route and go for the white cossie injectors too. We'll just have to see though.

As for downsides though, yeah, lag may be a problem, but for 300+ brake, for what? Halve the price of the cheapest ATP or IHI option? May be worth it? We'll see. Thats why I'm waiting to see what his is like before I fully commit.

p.s. He reackons my turbo is worth ?500 though (Brand new k03s). We'll see, I aint too greedy lol.
