How should a 110 with a decent quality tuning box drive compared to a bog-standard 115? My dad's 115 feels much more gutsy off the mark than my 110. I know the pds are generally livlier, but would expect a 110 with a box to be pretty close? Am not sure mine is...

Any thoughts anyone??

I would expect a tuned 110 to be better than a std 115.

I suppose the 'seat of the pants' feeling comes from the torque - what's the comparison on figures?

There are 2 versions of the 115 as follows:

115bhp/210lbft and 115bhp/230lbft

The 110 standard is:

110bhp/173lbft

Not sure what a tuning box gives but a remap gives:

143bhp/214lbft

The MAF is only a couple of months old. Was dreadful with the old one in! I seem to have to put my foot down a lot further in the 110. At higher revs the 115 probably doesn't pull much better.

Is the better initial surge of power just a characteristic of the 115pd and something that I have to accept?

You potentially have less torque and I suspect what you do have may be higher in the revs. It's most probably a perception thing. A rolling road run would probably put your mind at rest.

With my remap on a 110 i got 155bhp and 262lbft, standard it was 114bhp and 178lbft. I think a remapped on even tuningbox 110 would be quicker then a standard 115.

Yes thats rr figures, but who's to say there dead right? that's a different topic all together. A good custom remap should give you about 40bhp gain imo.

A 110 with a tuning box will definately be much more lively than a 115 in standard form. It will be most noticable further up the rev range than peak torque, the car will feel much more aggressive to drive.

Thanks for your comments so far everyone, much appreciated. I don't think my 110 is agressive to drive. Don't get me wrong, it's fairly lively but my dad's 115 always feels much more willing when I drive it. Maybe mine pulls slightly stronger above 2500rpm but I guess the increased fuelling of the tuning box would account for this.

I even tried out another 95k 110 when my dad was looking to buy and it felt as quick as mine (if not quicker) in totally standard form without a tuning box.

The 115 in 6sp guise had 210lbs/ft. The 130PD has 229lbs/ft.

My tuning box'd 110 was actually slower than a stock 115pd going through the gears.

The upsolute site shows the 2 versions of the 115 as detailed above, it also shows different tuned figures for both.

There were 2 versions of the 115 pd engine, 5 speed with lower torque and the 210lb/ft 6 speed. Same for the passat.

No other tuner lists a map for a 230lbs/ft 115pd. They also claim 315 lbs/ft from a remapped 150. Find that hard to believe.
