Sounds a lot. For that price I'm guessing they don't have their own alignment machine and send it elsewhere. My local VW service centre charged ?80, that's for all four wheels on its in-house high tech Beissbarth machine. They gave me printouts of all the log data which included some 3D diagrams showing angles and stuff - worth the price of admission alone [:p]

You should offer to do dent repair work for them - many garages sub out specialist work.

They won't do it themselves - they'll just send it along to the local tyre fitting place.

Ask them where they get the work done and then go there yourself

Will be done while you wait for half the money.

I paid ?74 + vat to have mine done but that included ?10 to release a siezed arm.

I went to my local tyre dealer and he always does it for a big fat 0

but he never seems to be able to get the stearing wheel dead stright, dont get me wrong it is not bad but having the wheel just a bit off can drive you nuts

it is about 40mm off to the right but the car drives fine

the dealer has there own kit to do it so i think they are just trying to rip me off

Go to a place with a proper 4 wheel laser alignment machine.

Basic cost is around ?50 + xtra for any adjustments.

They should take the steering wheel off to correct and also give you a print out of before and after measurements.

Tracking is only a matter of adjusting the tie rods, a full alignment also checks wheel camber, castor... but still ?110 even with their own in-house machine sounds a lot... or are they slow workers? [:D]

Very slow and to honest i will never use them.

i had a problem with the car as it would not start went to them paid 85 quid to find out what is was and was told it was the ECU and the imobliser coil on the stearing lock

what would total about 1300 pound
not happy i put it on a trailer and went to Antony Motors in Aberystwyth about 90 miles away
very very good dealer and helpfull

spent a week working on the car and found it was the EGR valve was jamed open and cot me 345 quid in total
i was so imprest with them it was unreal and they gave me a car for nothing

I am not sure if taking the wheel off is a very good idea as it is fitted with ESP and it will affect the ABS and ESP due to it having a posision sensor on the stearing wheel (beond my knolage[:p])

No one who knows what they are talking about would remove the steering wheel to centre it when adjusting /checking wheel alignment, they will centre the wheel and lock/hold it in that position with a special bracket that uses the seat to stop it turning, then they will adjust the trackrod ends so that the wheels are sitting at the specified position when the steering wheel is pointing straight ahead, removing and refitting the steering wheel so it sits right only makes things worse as it increases the amount of steering lock on one side and reduces it on the other

Took mine down to ATS, when I was getting some vibration and they checked FOC. Good guys.

If you have a .:R or 4MO I would expect a high bill, as they need special equipment for 4WD, so I believe. Cost me ?90, when I had a Audi Q, a few years ago.

I'm going through this after my car had an arguement with a pothole.

My local dealers quote for two hours labour to carryout a four wheel alignment - This equates to around ?170 odd but they charge ?100 - ?120 (plus VAT). Problem, in my case, is that they don't take in account suspension mods.

Elite down in jolly Essex charge itro ?69 (plus VAT) to do a four wheel laser alignment and have the knowledge to take into account you suspension mods. They have a team doing laser alignments all day so they know what they're doing and you can laugh at some chav modiles and drool over the Aston Martins!!

They were the nearest people to me (outside of VAG Dealers) who do laser four wheel alignment that I could find.

DONT go the dealer route, as said before, they will just take it to a tyre place to get it sorted.

Get the yellow pages out, you'll find a place in there, expect to pay ?30-50. for a standard job, if its a 4mo you'll pay a bit more as they have adjustable rear camber, the rest dont, so watch out for the Bull Sh*t that they have done it.

OMFG is it!!

I pay ?15 for laser alignment and tracking from Budget, and you can
have it done as many times as you like over the following year for
that, so if I clip a curb or hit a big pot hole I take it back and have
it done again.
