I always have a mouse plugged into my Toshiba laptop when I use it at home,re-installed Windows 7 yesterday with the mouse plugged in and now the touchpad won't work even though device manager says it is working properly.Even if I switch off and reboot without the mouse plugged in,the touchpad still doesn't work.

Any ideas anyone please?

Not that I think you're as stupid as me, but I had the same problem on a Toshiba ages ago and I did everything I could - deleting the touchpad driver and reinstalling etc. and throughout it said it's working properly.

It turned out the F9 (I think) key toggles it on and off and I'd inadvertently switched it off! [paperbag][:$]

My HP did this after installing updates. It seemed to remove or corrupt the Synaptics drivers for the touch pad.

I did a system restore for the previous day.
