Time to get Schooled in the ways of 1.8t!

Hello!

I am a big Golf fan, in fact I have only ever owned Golfs! (is that so wrong?!).

My last Golf was MK3 GTI 16v, was fun but old and tired - sold it on and got me a Mk4 GTI 1.8t (Xreg 2001) 3door couple of months ago and LOVE it!

This year im determined to be more hands on in maintenance and want to tune it up so looking forward to learning all I can from this forum.

My current plan is to replace the RV with a Forge, the current RV is the original one and currently reading a fault (currently the only fault reading!).

The next stage is to get a remap as I would like more Torque!

Looking forward to chatting to you all on here! [:)]

Welcome bud, you've come to (arguably) the right place!

Which engine code you got, AGU/ARZ/AUM/AUQ?
Welcome to the forum fella, pick yourself up a Forge Valve (had mine for years and happy with it) ,panel filter and a remap and you'll be grinning from ear to ear!
Cheers for the great welcome guys! [:)]

@timbomfg It's the 150PS so the AGU/ARZ/AUM I think.

@Carlos Man! you have one of my dream cars, the best colour to! R32 is the daddy.
Welcome to the forum mate.
Will be the AUM then i believe. One of the better 1.8ts [:#]

Peter
@pi5toff really? I had no idea that they varied so much! Will defo have to check the engine code later to be sure the exact code.

How come they are better? different turbo or the like? (as you can tell im not very knowledgeable on mk4s! [;)])
AGU/ARZ have the K03 which could map to around 190, AUM/AUQ have a K03s which can map closer to 230 with supporting maps.

However, AGU and ARZ have forged pistons and crank, so have some substantial scope too.

Edit: So its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
As Tim said, there are massive advantages of both, but in reality we all know that the AUM drivers are proven to be by far the coolest, followed closely by the AUQ's, then the AGU's and trailing behind are the ARZes. [;)] sorry Tim.

Get some pictures up bud [:)] where abouts you from.

oh and most importantly, Welcome to the fold [:)]

We all know AGU's are the best,a real drivers car,non of this fancy dbw and replacing coil packs every week tosh[lol-lol]

The ARZs have the bolt-down coilpacks too! [:p]
[blah] [surrender] lol

Checked the log book this morning and turns out I have the AUM engine!

Must say I am very pleased as would be great to get it to 200+PS! [:D]

There are probably loads of threads already on the subject but can anyone point me in the direction of one that give the knowledge on Remaps?

Also cheers for making me so welcome. [:)]
Oh also will be getting some pics done once iv had chance to wash the motor - been doing some long drives so mega dirty (thank fook it's a silver car! lol).

Any proof to back that statement up?

Its all a load of cods wallop IMO, Ive stripped an APY S3 engine, AUM and AGU and I am quite happy to say that they are all the same, other than the earlier engines had a 20mm wrist pin.

Dan
Im pretty sure it was you on another thread who said they were forged, and a few people had told me forged was better. No proof per_se, just going on what id been told.

Welcome to the AUM club

RTech are the preferred mappers to go to but there are loads all over the country.

Peter
Hi again guys, been AWOL for a bit due to work - now back in the game!

I was looking at getting a Revo remap done locally but Stage 1 would cost me around £500, now thinking that a 2 hour drive up to the guys at RTech would be time and petrol money worth spending as they are half the price!

Been doing a bit of digging about and seems that RTech are the boys for tuning, some impressive figures out there for AUM engines.

Not sure to go for the stage 1 or 2, im assuming im gonna have to uprate parts if I go for the latter.
