With so many BBS RC's going back to the dealers under warranty with
corrosion issues, I can't imagine they send every single set back to
the head office (or even back to BBS) - you reckon they'd laugh me out
of the door if I went and enquired if they have any corroded sets
knocking around that I could take off their hands cheap?

I'm pretty friendly with the parts guys @ my local Stealers and I need
to go pick up some bits I ordered.. reckon it has to be worth going to
ask!

I think there is a requirement for them to either return them to BBS or destroy them. One very good reason for this is that the wheels may not be roadworthy (slight buckle, hairline cracks etc), and if this were to cause an accident they would be responsible as they supplied them. Hence they are better off destroying them than face potential liability.

Hm.. fair enough.

No harm in asking I guess but what you've said makes sense. I just want
a set of wheels like RC's but seriously ?1000 is a LOT of money.. I
know BBS's (and in particular RC's) are worth the money, but you know
what I mean...

Person I spoke to at my local dealers said they take a ruddy big hammer to them to make sure they aren't used again....

But I can see a few sets going missing between the time taken to get the wheels off then car and said hammer making contact [:D]

Currently ?215 per wheel, excluding VAT and 'sans' tyres from
oemparts.. great site for some things, but I guess on this occasion NOT
Anniversary RC's :(

Guess i'll just have to keep my eyes peeled. And see if the parts dept at Listers take bribes!!

Hm.. foiled.

I went to pick up some bits after work and got a young lad on the parts
counter instead of my usual guy. I asked about the wheel corrosion
issue.. he said he wasn't aware of such a problem.. I laughed and said
I was surprised. But he said any parts like that which came back on
warranty would be sent back up the chain and not stored locally. I'm
not convinced.. I need to try see the usual guy as I reckon he might be
a bit more willing to help me out!

Will update this post if I get anywhere!

I have some BBS RX2's which are corroded on the outer rim, should i take them back to the stealer?

I only bought the car last December, its a 2000 reg, and as far as i'm aware the wheels were a dealer fit option. Should i be worried, some of the wheels are corroded really badly.

Hi guys, its funny that I should br looking at this topic, as I have friend how deals with his companies cars. They to have a anniversary golf with this condition, and the wheels are also going to be replaced. Being the shrude guy that he is he contacted the dealer doing the replacment and asked for the wheeels to be rwtuned to the company, as he knew that I wanted a set. For the sum of ?50, I will be in possesion of a set of 4 anni alloys, as the dealers only rate the scrap value of themat ?50, you guys might want to look into this.

What attreacted me to the topic is that do any of you know where or even if the wheels can br re furbished.

If you do could you let me know.

Are they 16" with a VW centre cap? If so then yes they are a dealer fit option. I believe the outer rim on the RX2 is steel though, a protective ring that can be replaced to avoid expensive repairs to minor kerb damage.
