after the arduous cleaning of the Golf and Passat inlets..
But no..
There's an issue with the Frontera so here we go again (for the flipping last time I hope!!)
Inlet elbow and EGR (already off), swirl flaps (WTF!) and inlet..
Cleaning spray arrives tomorrow so tomorrow it'll get put back together.

Next year I'm buying something lower maintenance (and better performance /comfort)..

Y20DT engine huh? yes that is a bugger to clean.. you should've gone for seafoam just be glad you got the older version at least you can block the egr without having to buy an egr cheater to fool the ECU... also you can easily remap it to go from 99 to 139 bhp...

EGR was brand new maybe 6 months ago.
Not sure about the remap option, was chatting to a bloke up Norwich way and he was uncertain..
I think it's about 120bhp in the frontera (but 140-ish in the Omega, dunno where they get ~20 brake from but it'd be groovy to have)

She's not long had 5 new tyres fitted otherwise she'd likely have scrapped it..

Y22dth? They manage 160 in the vectra's same bloody engine but edc15 ecu meaning you can mpps it... get teapot of vectra-c.com to remote map it for you... will need mpps v18 though... think that is the cheapest way to get a proper remap for your engine...

And yes they are dirty engines both y20dth and y22dth suffer from it... and you'll need an egr cheater if you want to get rid of the egr valve...

It was teapot I was emailing. He can't do it.
It's got the psg16 ecu.

Current top option is a Steinbaur tuning box that'd perk it up to Omega power.

But we need to make sure its issues are fixed by cleaning first.

Vectra C is the Y22DTR.. the B had the DTH (not a clue of any difference, they both make the same stock power so I'd guess it's minimal)

DTR is the older version found in the vectra B... has the small vacuum operated EGR as opposed to that big old electric egr cylinder thing we got on the engine... ps don't forget to clean the VNT mate as you got the variable turbo...

The B has the DTH..
I ain't cleaning a turbo. Still not done the one in the golf, they confuse the living crap out of me.

Latest version of that engine is dth not DTR... 2.2 16v dti diesel engine right? DTH... as I said my vectra C has a 2.0 16v dti diesel engine code = y20dth... differences between yours and mine are.. bottom block and you got a variable turbo... and your diesel pump is setup for that but basically we got the same engine... I'm even sure you got the f23 gearbox also with the same ratios

Ba$tard fuel pump won't prime..
Aside from a priming pump we've tried all other methods found across the net.

Might order a priming pump but I think kirsty's just sticking it up for sale for £500 spares or repair.

tow start it... it'll push the air out, if it doesn't start that way than there is something else wrong... anyway once it runs she/you can ask more for it...
I'll see if she fancies having a bash at that in the next few days (we're almost at the 'cgaf I'll just scrap it' stage)
Feed it ether for 5 minutes. Little squirts at a time.
Could probably get some from somewhere.. never done that on a derv before.. only ever on 80's/90's petrol cars.

Deodorant works in a squeeze.
So does WD40 lol but I wouldn't use either... a tow start will actually help remove the air... just get the car up to 30 mph put it in 3rd gear, and slowly let the clutch come up... 9 out of 10 times it immediately fires up as soon as the clutch is fully engaged.... the reason to do it slowly is because you are being towed... and as soon as it runs, take it out of gear signal the tower stop on the side and drive back... park it and turn it off... than on again should start immediately

Kirsty bought a priming bulb thingummy.
It didn't fit so I had to fiddle about and make it (got there just in time, Kirsty was about to phone the scrappy)..
Primed, bulb went firm, cranked it over - nothing.
Slackened fuel rail to 1 & 2, re-primed, fuel came out, tightened them back up, cranked it, tried to start, sounded horrific, Kirsty thought we'd killed the fuel pump.
Slackened 3 & 4, re-primed, got fuel, re-tightened, cranked it and it fired up, sounded good, took it for a little spin (after removing the primer bulb). Runs lovely..

She's going to use it for work for a week and see how it goes..
If it's good, and she's confident in its reliability, we'll be pushing to get the golf gone. Otherwise, the frontera will go.

Either way we lose a chunk of £'age and someone gets a good deal.

I get that but it wouldn't have killed the pump... but hey you got it sorted... next time you replace the fuel filter remember to clamp the fuel lines right after the filter housing both of them that way the fuel stays put.

Still not liking the fact the golf is constantly in danger of being sold but hey you got enough project cars to sort out.

The golf is a lot of fun and I'll be sad to see it go.. we've put over 30k miles on it, think that's the most I've done in a car in 36 years of driving.
Plus, in spite of finally getting back to full ncb, my insurance premium has exceeded £300 (£280 last year) in spite of being in a lower band postcode. I'm outraged (not really but I am a little peeved).

Think she'll get a garage to do the fuel filter, the bolts are solid and she thinks they're going to snap - plus they get any hassle getting it started again

Looks like the frontera is going..
Suppose I need to get my head around the heated seat and W8 light wiring in the golf.
And get the windscreen replaced .
Fit another door module.
Replace both coolant sensors.
