The Rolling Road(Block) Thread-Fuel Price Protest

3912 Views 25 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  chrisaroo
I have seen loads of posts with people saying they would support a rolling roadblock protest, similar to the one the bikers conducted some years ago, about rising fuel costs.

so here is a thread to register your interests, concerns, possible dates and possible highways to block.

Before we start lets make a few things clear.

1)any protest would be legal! (i.e. minimum of 50mph)

2)Who said this wont make any difference? at least it will have media coverage, and people will take note!

3)If people comment on this thread with rude and obscene stuff (im sure you wont) i hope the mods take action!

4)Please do not think this thread is to cause trouble...it isnt. It is to see who is pro/anti doing something like this, and POSSIBLY take action at a later date!

Lets not forget we are now paying a minimum of £1.25(ish) per LITRE of Unleaded, with fuel duty set to RISE again! VAT has obv just risen, income tax is to be raised, and NI stamps are to be raised. Yet our government still spend £m's in quango organisations, compleatly unneccessary waste of YOUR hard earned cash! Your money is just going to finance the fat cat MP's etc. Its a shameful situation. If everyone does their bit to tell the government they are wrong, they would soon listen!

So i hope you will join me in this very small, perhaps insignificant, but needed step!

If this ever was to happen the worse thing that you could do is plan something like this on an open forum
If I get a couple of weeks notice in order to save for the fast juice "Im in"[au]

yeh i agree, but it would need to be spread around car groups
It was the truckers who caused the biggest disruption and got the headlines the last time.

The government now gives concessions to the haulage firms so we wont be seeing them in a hurry.

IIRC the excise duty was cut for the haulage industry to keep them happy...

yeh it was something along those lines. but seriously, how the hell are we all to afford to continue to pay these stupid prices?! it wouldnt be so bad if public transport wasnt so awful, that everytime a white flake came out the sky the entire system shut down!
is there really so little interest in this?!
yeah, there is, why else do you you think the British Government gets away with tax hikes...?

The British people, just good for moaning, complaining. but doing sweet FA about it!

if only people were not a selfish as they were, if only the British people were united... yeh right

NOW

the French!
lol at the french...I wish us brits had the balls to do stuff like that! cash deliveries stopped so there was no cash in atm's, fuel deliveries stopped, post deliveries stopped, garbage collection stopped! it really hurt, an the government listened!
wouldnt surprise me if the Frenchies are all in the same union[:DD] Strike action from every section of the workforce.
Ahem......*frenchie here*

The advantage the French have, is that the government are fearful of them. Their student protests & retirement protests made a difference, and didn't involve as much destruction as ours!

I don't think it would be possible to create enough of a scene with a rolling roadblock of cars tbh, trucks yea.
I started an idea like this on another post. There is a fuel protest due in London on Feb 16th 2011. It would be good if we could do something on the M6 to bring attention to the fact that we won't just lie down and pay without voicing our concerns.

I think Sunday Feb 20th 2011 would be a good day to do it. What do people think?

Any Ideas

On facebook search for fuel protest 2011 and there are some details there for the one in London
You do know that the police basically use the new terrorism laws to allow themselves to do whatever they like to anyone who is protesting? peacefully or not.

theyll just arrest you and from that moment on every time a cop is behind you they WILL stop you.

Your taking on the most organised, well funded firm on the planet, the government, I call them a firm because thats exactly what they are, only they are the one that makes the rules.
Interested if i have enough money for petrol [:D]
i agee we do need to do something but we aint going to get help from the hgv's like last time as there gettin help to keep them quiet i'm not disin the guys btw its there livelyhood after all. if there is anything done all concerned will have to keep just inside the law. i do think youll be surprised how much support it ill get
What the hell is a rolling road block going to achieve?

For maximum impact you wanna be blocking the roads in and out of the oil refineries.
Or you can all just grow up and accept that you want a decent level of public services, and that they have to be paid for. Do you want an nhs? A pension when you reach retirement? benefits for the poor, and unfortunate in society? Well sorry but we all have to pay for them. If you don't like fuel duty then drive less, cycle, move nearer to your work, or just grow up and accept that it's life and there's feck all you can do about it other than cut your cloth to suit.
So am I the only person that can see the irony of protesting about the price of fuel by using more of it[facepalm]?
