Alright people

Thankfully i have had some time to view the new forum and thought i
would make a thread while i was here looking for help from all the
other users out there.

I am planning on modifying a golf very shortly to something different
than your usual OEM modifications. Im planning on shaving my dub to go
for the perfect Euro look.

I have written out my ideas here:

Exterior

?
OEM
R32 Front Bumper (German)

?
Bonrath
Badgeless Grill

?
Custom
Boser Hood (Sleepy)

?
Notchless
Hood

?
Shaved
Side Mouldings

?
OEM
Stubby Mirrors (German)

?
Fully
Shaved Hatch (Including Antenna)

?
OEM
HID Projectors

?
M3
Style Rear Clusters

?
Cut
& Pulled Arches

Wheels
& Suspension

?
Carline
M6 18x10(Rear) and 18x9(Front) (offset is really low
which is why they stick out so much)

?
H&R
Coilovers

I am hoping my end result looks something similar to this:

The
reason i thought i would make a post is quite simple. There isnt many
great bodyshops around the Livingston area where i stay. I spoke to
dan, a good friend and a member of this forum and he recommended i take
my golf somewhere down south to somewhere that really knows what
they are doing. He got his R32 kit fitted up here and had some issues
that had to resolved after getting it back out the bodyshop.

Could
someone recommend somewhere and tell give me a rough quote at how much
im looking at spending for all the bodywork if i was to provide
everything but paint.

I appreciate anyone who replies and bothered reading this lengthy thread [:)]

Cheers!

Your car would look wicked if done like that one in the pic!

Why a german front bumper, whats the diff between that and a uk one?

Also about the mirrors im sure you would need a jap one, cant remember what side tho im guessing the drivers one as the german mirror would have the angled bit of glass on the wrong side so would be on you passenger side when fitted.

Alright mate

Your right about the wing mirrors. I would need to go for the Japanese
ones but that shouldnt be a problem. Hunting down the right stuff on
the net isnt that big a deal.

Im hoping to have the car looking something similar to the pic above by the end of the year at the latest

Even supplying the parts etc, yourself, that is still a fair amount of bodywork.

Removing all the rub strips and filling and smoothing ?250 ish

I guess it also has a smooth rear end (tailgate), another ?200, depending whether you want the handle removed also, which would be extra dosh, due to fitting a solonoid etc.

Fitting .:R bumpers, easy job, ?70-100

Rolling all four arches, approx - ?40 -50 each (?160)

Removing aerial ?? ???

fitting boser to the hood ? 00's ??

Then you have the spraying and after such exstensive work, I would want a decent complete respray - ?2.5 - 3k.

You could probably get it done cheaper as an all in job and this is just what I reckon it would cost, I am not a bodyshop pro or anything of the sort. Purely my opinion.

I would expect to pay around ?3-4k for a decent job and that much work.

PM, phat4, or MikeTDI, he has a car with similar amount of work.

Good luck with the project, love everything about the look except the bonnet !!!

I really appreciate your reply Dubswich

I wasnt quite sure anyone was planning on getting back to me about this
thread. A few people told me i was looking at around the same amount of
cash for all the bodywork at somewhere pretty decent.

I guess its alot of cash but you pay for a good job 99.9% of the time.

Im going to message both members and hopefully they will be able to
tell me how much im looking at and might actually be able to recommend
somewhere.

A mate of mine just got his clio back from a bodyshop which is pretty
local and he spent over ?3k and the amount of small mistakes they have
made is unbelieveable. If your paying that kind of money your not meant
to be have mistakes which people are able to point out.

The place in Larbert is supposed to be quite good isn't it? Autotechnique it's called....

Try looking at Scottish VAG for some recommendations, I'm sure there will be somewhere up here that can do as good a job as if you travelled hundreds of miles

Hi there just seen your thread on the euro look you want to acheive, I
can highly recommend Tony Paynes in Iver (Buckinghamshire). It's
definetly not the cheapest but it is a truely a professional outfit run
by experienced VW enthusiasts and well known in the industry. I wont
harp on how good it is.. but if I wanted to do a full on euro
treatment.. thats the place i'd take it. I've had archwork done there
in the past and it invloved flattening and pulling the arches, trimming
the arch liner and respraying the wings for ?280 he also pulled the
rears out a bit aswell, awesome job.

Heres the weblink.. Website is ancient, pics haven't been updated for ages..

Whats the score with those carline rims? Major Bucks?

Cheers,

Will

If you are from Livingston, have you heard of Calder Coachworks in West Calder? A lot of their work has ended up in various mag features. May be worth going to speak to them, and getting a quote.

The main problem you face, is, apart from the bumpers none of the work is a DIY job, so you have to fork out and then you expect a top job, especially if your paying that much cash and since you will be touching every panel, except the rear quarters, you have to respray the whole car, which is where most of the cost is incurred.

If I was your mate, spending over 3k, I would be banging on the door for them to sort it !!!

I highly appreciate everyones replies.

Cat1.4 im planning on checking out Scottish VAG for some
recommended garages. There is some real nice cars around on that forum
and im sure alot of them were done locally.

graeme84. im currently off this week so i am planning on taking
a detailed description of what im wanting done to a few garages around
here, one of them being Calder Coachworks! This is the only place
around the Lothian area i have heard nothing but good things from but
ive heard they arent cheap.. but i guess you get what you pay for!

Dubswich. your right about the work that is at hand. I should be
able to fit the bumpers on the car but i figured whats the point when
everything else is going to be done at a garage. Im going to get
everything all done at the once.
