The last time I filled up my 1.4 Bora I got 420 miles and the fuel
light was on for about 10 miles of that. Cost about 55 euro to fill it
though.

Between 360 - 420 miles, depending on how it's being driven
I've never had it anywhere near that, but then again, I do rag the tits
out of it, its used for quite a few short journeys, and I rarely ever
let it get near the light! Saying that, I had it pretty far down that
ways yesturday, but even then it was less than 300 miles.....

I use lots of petrol........ god save the world when I get a GTi lol

Think the tank is same as other models, 55 litres, but you get more out of it. My 1.6 drinks petrol like you wouldn't believe, but hey, you can't worry too much about everything otherwise how can you enjoy the car [Y]

I wouldnt bother, you've only got the money once and you might as well enjoy driving!

In all honesty, 40quid rarely gets me much more than about 240 miles!

My work Fiesta (1,800 on the clock so far) has 40 litres and is a TDCi, only manages 360-ish at the moment (and I got 605 miles out of my old Laguna estate 1.9 TD with 40K before that on 55 litres!). The main techniques are anticipation and accelerating smoothly, keeping loading to a minimum. The Fiesta is great for this because it makes a clattering noise proportional to the loading, the quieter you keep it while still maintaining a decent rate of motion, the better the economy. When I'm in full granny mode on the cruise, you can hardly tell it's a diesel (and not at all when at constant speed).

Oh, unload that 300 Kg bass bin from the boot as well [;)]

Mate, im a university student, and I don't work, admittedly, I do have
some money coming in, but still, every penny! Yea it is a bit worrying
that my 1.4L gets the same as your 1L, but then again I do constantly
thrash the tits off it as anyone who's ever been in my car would attest!

im gonna stop taking my car to the redline now, im just gonna stop at
about 4-5k rpm and hopefully this should add me about 20 miles, also
when going back and forth from college i drop my mates off, they offer
me money for petrol but as im too proud to accept any money i don't
take it, i think things may change now [;)] lol

Well, for thats why, for the opposite reason, im looking to buy a GTi T
in the summer. Having more power, and the ability to overtake (!) with
ease, should mean i thrash it less. In theory at least.......

About 48 quid.

My car only gets driven long distances, no short urban trips (work is
40 miles each way, weekends has been getting driven 160 miles at a
time).

I prefer being relaxed in the car so don't feel the urge to thrash it,
and since getting an sp50 last year it is always under the speed limit
- I don't need the insurance hit of getting another 3 points.

I sometimes have to work in Reading which is the same distance - doing that every day would drive me potty!

thats cool, i wanted a gti orginally but i couldnt, no matter how hard i tried, slow my driving down willingly, so i decided i had to force myself, cant risk losing my licence [:p] am happy to go down the motorway now at 70 whereas before i struggled to drop below 100 lol, fuel economy keeps me very happy [:D]
