So you bought it without an mot?
Nope. Not paid for anything yet. Given the car's location (300+ miles north), i was awaiting news of a Valid MOT and 6 months tax before going up and buying it.

Whats the plan from here then?

Mostly minor, mostly related to usual wear on the age of the car.

A flexi-pipe to one of the calipers, a slightly sticky rear caliper (lets be honest, common as bird-turd), a CV gaiter, and an advisory for a rear tyre which we knew about already.

I had a hunt, and to get equal millage on the clutch, turbo and head would require spending in excess of 3.8-4.2. Plus the turbo has been driven properly and is spotless internally, which with the other minor supporting mods, should at least mean no need to replace the turbo any time soon.

If it weren't for the people working on this car, i would have walked.

I'm guessing a 5 door polo with a pd130 conversion and a big turbo, fmic and mapped.
Maybe not... I must've spotted it the other day, but it only just registered (damned subconcious!). This (red outline):

I'm thinking definately on an A4 platform, and most likely a Golf or Bora, (in my [limited] opinion). Unlikely that you'd transfer something like that on an engine swap, right?

Heat shield at the very back and the brackets for the valves/vac lines (I think?) next to the outlined bracket look the same as my Bora's bay. HOWEVER, the raised part on top of the engine itself is a different shape to my ASZ, and the breather hose goes off in a different direction (to catch can maybe?).

Any more clues Tim?
