Hi all

Im sorry that this subject is probably done to death, however i have 1999 1.6se and from what I gather a common problem is a 'rivet' of some kind in the gearbox cracking through the case, ruining the gearbox. Can someone tell me if this is correct and if not what is the issue? and also im slighlty worried as my golf is currently on 122,000 miles and on the orignal box.....is there anything I can do to make sure its all running well?

Thanks

Jake

Hi if it has done 122.00 miles on original box then you have been very lucky so far .The rivets vw use when building the gearbox are not really suitable.. the easier you drive the vehicle and less modifications you make will prolong the life of the gearbox...

Thanks. Im not sure actually if its the orginal box, I suppose theres no way to tell...

It feels fine and changed the oil and put an additive in there couple of weeks ago and it feels really good but I had just heard so many things about them !

Thanks
