Hi everyone, looking for a bit of help with my mk4 golf 1.4 16v. when drive normally there is no reading at all from the temp gauge. when i stop and leave the car running or stop at lights the temp gauge goes up to the middle mark and sits where it should. I replaced the temp sender and its still the same.

i have replaced the coolant and the water pump is functioning.

The Only conclusion i can come to and its seems more obvious as im typing this is im missing the middle grill from my bumper (the one thats in front of the rad). could it be that when the car is in motion its getting over cooled causing the temp gauge to get no reading. the temp guage i believe is reading the temp of the coolant as it comes out of the rad into the engine. incidently the interior heating is not great when im moving but is fine when the car is stopped.

anyones thoughts much appreciated.
