The whole mayo thing is massively overrated as a detector of HG failure. First up, HGs can fail outwards from a coolant pathway meaning you lose coolant but it doesn't mix with the oil, or even cause low compression/loss of power. Check the outside of the block for crusting and residue for those.
Secondly, you're looking for thick Hellman's under the oil filler cap, or creamy toffee caramel, not a light misting. By all means wipe the oil filler cap dry and take it for a run to see if it returns but usually it's really noticeable.
(this experienced gained over years of running and hanging around with people running Rover K-series engines on trackdays where HGs were considered to be consumable items, plus blowing the HG coolant side on my Volvo 940)
